Brooklyn Cruise Terminal

Does anyone know anything about the Brooklyn Cruise Terminal? We're driving up from the south for a QM2 cruise on 8/31; according to BCT website they have parking for 500 cars..anyone know if that is ever insufficient? Is it terribly hard to get to? How much would a taxi be from Penn Station in NYC? Alternately might take a train in to the city. Any comments would be appreciated.

I had a luncheon on her in April...the parking lot was pretty empty...I think alot of people get dropped off...It isn't difficult to find...but the area of the terminal location is pretty beat up, lol. It isn't far over the Brooklyn Bridge.

Sorry, I don't know about the cost of a taxi.

If you do a Yahoo or Google search you can pull up the website for Red Hook with info about parking and directions.

JLT - I found a website for the Brooklyn Cruise Terminal here:
Brooklyn Cruise Terminal directions and parking for cruise passengers

and the directions on it are pretty clear. However they recommend that you take a taxi, if that is practical. I grew up not too far from there, and I have to agree - if you aren't used to NY traffic, let someone else do the driving.

There are no set fares in a NY cab except for fares to the Kennedy Airport. However, cabs should not be too expensive. Parking in NY IS expensive.
Here is some basic info about the NY taxi fare structure
NewYorkology: A New York Travel Guide
and some other good info about taxis.

Both these pages have links elsewhere that should make your visit to NY and Brooklyn less intimidating and hopefully more enjoyable.

thanks for the advice; I think given the cost of train tickets, parking at the origin train station, plus taxis, plus lugging around suitcases, we're just gonna drive to the cruise terminal. It would be diffferent if the misses was more interested in the City, but she has none.

Sometimes it is the easiest....just allow for that famous NY traffic!

followed directions from Brooklyn Cruise Terminal website, very easy. You can see the ship from the Verrzano Bridge, so it is not hard. Do not go late, and do not follow Cunard's recommended check in times (if past noon). We saw significant traffic problems on Bayonne/Goethals/Verrazano Bridges and NJ Tpike so you don't want to chance it. Also, the more attractive parking lot was nearly full when we arrived at 1130. We were told to arrive at 3! Parking is about $17 a day, not bad for NYC. Cunard does offer transfers to Penn St, bus terminal, airports etc which we did not know about until we were on the ship so check them out.
