I took a journalism class in college and the professor said that of the 5 to 7 stories on the front page of any major newspaper, 3 to 5 of them are negative. And of the 19 to 21 stories on the average news broadcast, 17 to 19 are negative.
Unfortunately, we've just become a negative society. We thrive on other people's misery. I think perhaps it makes us feel better about our lives when we see other people suffering.
All I know is that I try very hard to be optimistic about everything and it's often very difficult to do when I'm constantly being bombarded with negativity. My credo has always been, "You'll always find what you're looking for, so why not look for the best in everything." If you want to find negative, you can definitely find it. Don't know if that will make you sad because of all the negativity, or whether it'll make you feel happy because you found it. But if you want to find the positive things in life, you can find that as well. Cruises are no exception. If you want to have a miserable time, you'll let all the little things that can go wrong bother you. But if you want to have a good time, you'll let those little things roll off your back and you'll have a wonderful time.
Because I always try to maintain a positive attitude, I've never had a bad cruise. Sure, in 41 cruises we've have some problems, but we've never let those problems ruin our enjoyment of the cruise.
Unfortunately, bad news sells papers.
Pete
