Can something bad happen because somebody knows no male passengers are in a certain cabin? My mom thinks so but I don't.
I went on a cruise with several friends and we had several cabins in a row, all just women. We never had any of the problems your Mom is worried about.
All ships have security personnel, and all cabins have double locks. If you become concerned about ANYTHING, call ship's security to have them take a look.

On hiatus from cruising, but still very interested!!!
There's even been solo women passengers. If you're in your cabin during the day, you can always put the "do not disturb" sign in the slot on the outside of your door and your cabin steward won't bother you (else he or she may think you're out of the cabin and knock, then come in to work inside.
Also, it's a good idea to watch your drinks (even soda or water). Probably about 90 per cent, if not all, of the men onboard are honorable, but it's a common sense idea wherever you are.

All the doors have peep holes for you to see who might be knocking at your door. If you don't recognise the person, talk to them through the door without opening it. If they say they are maintenence people and you aren't expecting them, call Guest Relations to find out if someone has been sent to your cabin.
Us the same precautions on the ship that you would use at home. A ship is like a floating community with a mixed bag of "residents". Most are well intentioned, but there can be a few bad apples in the bunch, but don't let that be your constant worry.
I have had some long posts with cruisers on "another channel" who said that they would never leave their cabin without someone accompanying them because they feared being pulled into a cabin as they went along.
This paranoia is quite marked in certain sections and in certain countries. I feel that if this worries someone so much they should not spoil a cruise, they should just not go on it. Strong talk I know but these outspoken thoughts can be catching and then they just make a situation worse.... when there should be little or no concern IMO. Lucy
I've never felt fearful about walking by myself down a ship's hallway, And have never heard of someone being "pulled" into a cabin like this.
Now if one gets totally wasted and is wandering about a hallway late some night and somebody else spots you and decides to take advantage of you, that could happen anywhere. Definitely one should be careful on land not to walk around by themselves late at night without watching what's going on around you.

I agree with Patty. I've been doing this for a long time and I've never heard of anything like that ever happening.
If people are afraid of such things, they'd never go into a hotel either.
But then again, if fear dictated actions, no one would ever drive a car! Chances of getting involved in a traffic accident are a whole lot greater than anything even remotely bad happening on a ship.

Referring back to what I was saying if you check the threads of the American cruising site, you know which one you will find a thread in which this view was backed up by many American ladies. They would not go into the passageways at any time without someone accompanying them.
I tried to reason with them but they were adamant. I don't think this kind og fear affects people from the UK but it is very prevalent in the USA. Lucy
Yep, misery loves company! And if it's the site I think it is, those people over there are a bunch of hypochondriacs anyway!! Plus, most of their information comes from gossip and not from actual facts.
I polled my fellow Cruise Planners agents (we have around 800 nationwide) and between us we have tens of thousands of clients who have done hundreds of thousands of cruises and not one agent has reported anything about this ever happening.
So as I always tell people, stay away from that other site because most of what is presented over there is either misleading, incorrect, or just downright lies from people who like others to believe they know more than they actually do. In other words, alot of what you read is pure bulls**t!
I once read a post by someone over there that had alot of wrong information and when I did some research, I found out this person had never even been on a cruise!
There's alot of people over there who have nothing to do all day, so they spend their entire time posting in an attempt to make themselves look important.

An interesting explanation with relevant authority by the sound of it. I must admit that when I tried to allay their fears the reaction was one of complete resistance to the sane thought that they were worried over nothing.
Most Forums have a certain amount of spoilers and I can't say that I found a larger amount over there. If you can sift the rubbish there is so much good information around from many very experienced cruisers.
You don't need a very elaborate BS diviner to suss them out.
Thank you for the interjection. Lucy.
