The reason for Mom's concern was the lack of police onboard to patrol cabin decks.

I guess some people think because cruise ships are like floating hotels, what happened to ESPN sideline reporter Erin Andrews, who was stalked at Vanderbilt and sued Marriott for giving a guy her room number, can happen at sea. In that case, someone got a room next to hers and looked through the peephole to see Erin naked.

I have to say that I have never even thought about being afraid on a cruise ship! Niether have I ever had any fears for my children, who were 8 and 12 when we went on our first cruise.

I certainly have never felt nervous walking down the often very long corridors. Neither have I ever heard of anything like being dragged into a cabin happening.

The women who have such fears really shouldn't be cruising - or going anywhere, for that matter! After alll, someone might jump out on them at any time walking down a street!

I think that youngsters, in particular, just have to be sensible - just as sensible as they would be on land. Dangers often manifest themselves when alcohol is involved. Not getting into a situation where they are not in control of themselves is paramount. Of course, no youngster should accept an invitation into crew areas - these are strictly off limits, anyway.

But as for expecting someone to jump out at you round every corner, well, I have to say that really takes the biscuit!

I would hope it would be a lot higher than 90 %. because that would mean there are (say )100 scoundrels onboard , yikes.

Keep in mind that while cabins on a cruise ship are similar to a room in a hotel, they are completely different in many aspects.

Plus, cruise ships have hidden cameras all over the place, while most hotels do not. Safety onboard a ship is much more important than it is in a hotel.

The odds that someone would drill a hole into another cabin would be so rare. First of all, I think the security people would question why someone has a drill in their luggage or carry-on. Second, another passenger would have a hard time finding a time to drill a hole (which will cause significant noise) without no one finding out.
