How well do you deal with the unfortunate things that sometimes happen on cruises?
Some seem to get so upset about very minor things. Others have major things happen ... but do their best not to let them ruin their cruises.

So far nothing we've had nothing happen on a cruise has upset or bothered us beyond that momontary. We can't control the weather and we can't control other passengers ! While we find almost all crew to be wonderful its impossible not to have a few less than wonderful crew members on the ship along with it being impossible to not have things break down on the ship that just can't be fixed immediately. Ports get changed and they get missed and that's a part of cruising that one has to be able to accept if they are going to cruise. Noro virus happens and while one can do their best to avoid it, sometimes that's just not possible.
No doubt that someday something will happen that will cause us to become very upset but so far we've not found that "thing".

"Go with the flow"
LuLu another great topic..
I have found that what one considers minor others consider major and vice versa.
I know I haveexperienced both and at the moment it happens there is not much difference in feelings.
On the rare occasions that we have had disappointment .. I try my best to handle those situations exactly the same way.. By expressing my concerns to the "powers that be" on board.
That's all I can do!
Most of the time the situation can be and is corrected in a blink of an eye.. but there are sometimes when it is just impossible to correct it's on those occasions that I have to try and remember.. life happens...let it go...and to be honest that ain't always easy.. but that's our goal..![]()
I don't allow anything to "ruin" my cruise. I am too happy to be on the ship. I think my only irritant would be rude passengers, but rather than get upset I prefer the right placed word or action to point out the rudeness, especially if the rudeness was to a crew member.
Some people try to turn back their odometers. Not me! I want people to know why I look this way. I've traveled a long way, and some of the roads weren't paved.

Frankly, I can't remember anything that would warrant the worry or upset that I see other passengers display. As Joey said...life happens.
The only complaint that we have had on any ship that was not dealt with is the extremely high volume that is prevalent in the showroom/theater. Especially for the production shows. It seems that all the lines we have sailed on in the last 5 to 10 years blast us out of the room! We have mentioned it to every CD, not really expecting anything to be done, but registering our complaint. I know a lot of folks who feel the same way we do and it's a shame that we have to miss those shows, but it's downright painful at times! We might be old, but we're not deaf! And no hearing aid to turn down, either!![]()

I agree with Char that showroom volume is inexcusably loud. But, that's true in my local movie theatres, too. We seniors aren't all "deaf," though we may well be if we go to too many shows!
In all my cruising, I've only had one instance which really, really annoyed me. For the most part, it wasn't the cruise line's faul, rather the shore excursion operator's. However, the cruise line's attitude was not at all customer friendly! So far as I know, the situation has still not been resolved, so I guess others may be "grinning and bearing it!"

...
Well, there was the "Cruise from Hell". Between Noro, exploding hair dryers,an inept staff, and total lack of understanding by Holland America corporate office, I think I do have a reason to be upset over our cruise on the Noordam.
My way of getting even is to comment about it and discourage people from going on HAL.
This was the only time we have not gone with the flow, but, then this was extenuating circumstances.
Neal, your situation is a perfect example! The hairdryer provided by HAL in your cabin exploded in your hand and injured you ... a major thing!. You had every right to be upset ...especially the way you were treated by HAL. Yet, you and Deb did your best to enjoy the cruise.
There are some who whine endless because the ship's hairdryers don't dry their hair properly ... a minor thing.Easy fix ... if you didn't bring your own, just buy one.
Bottom Line: You delt better with a MAJOR problem than many do with MINOR problem.
