Question Is it safe to seek a secluded beach?

Many people seem to want to find a secluded beach in their port of call.

Just wondering how safe this actually is?

I find most people seeking a secluded beach do so because they wish to sunbathe topless or nude. Many secluded areas are a part of a regular beach, therefore pretty safe.

Sunset Beach and Spa in Montego Bay has a secluded beach
Couples San Souci in Ocho Rios has one

Good Point! Certainly some are interested because they wish to sunbathe in the nude.

Still, others just want to enjoy a quiet beach away from others.

Often, people will tell us they're planning to get a taxi to take them to an uncrowded beach and return for them later.

I'd be worried the entire time that the taxi might not return ... and also the safely issues .....

Is this really a safe thing to do?

As you explain in this post, YES it can be safe. I have gone to many uncrowded beaches, within minutes of port. Reggae Beach in Ocho Rios is 20 minutes from port, quite but not isolated. If your cab doesn't return you would not have a problem getting back. Paradise Beach is on the same stretch as Tulum Ruins but uncrowded because most visitors choose to stay at the beach below the ruins.

As for taxi, don't pay them until they return. Only death will keep them form returning for what is owed. Mostly I arrange my transportation with a reputable person based on other travelers experience.

We haven't gone to a secluded beach. A few times, we have asked taxi drivers for a beach to go to, and have been happy. I guess as long as you're not going into a port when there's tons of ships (or a megaship or two), there may not be a problem with a crowded beach.
