Question Electric Scooters - Should Cruise Lines Better Regulate?

It seems there are more and more electric scooters, etc. being used by passengers on cruise ships each year.

For those with mobility issues they are wonderful.

Unfortunately, for those (bless their hearts) who also have VISION problems and drive around like "Bats Out of Hell" ... these scooters are a hazard to fellow pax.

Is it time for cruise lines to better regulate who may and may not use one on board?

Would the cruiselines run into legal issues with the Americans with Disabilities Act? Don't ships that port here have to abide by those rules?

I have no idea what kind of restrictions they may or may not have now, but I have been run into by the drivers of which you speak!

They would run into legal issues with the ADA. I'm sure they run into people in the grocery, are you going to regulate them there too? No you can't, LuLu.

You know ... everyone has to have a Driver's License to operate a motor vehicle on pulbic roads ....

Hopefully, the day will come when all must have a license to operate a motorized vehicle in public places or AT LEAST HAVE SPEED LIMITS .....

You know on my first cruise in 2007. I was ran into(OVER) by one of these. Going to eat. The person had no care because they backed right into the crowd and no horn or excuse me or anything. Then they just drove off into the rest.
To make a long story short, if you need one of these and use one of these please be careful and watch where you are going. AND IF YOU HIT ANYONE PLEASE PLEASE STOP AND SEE IF THAT PERSON IS OKAY.

You know they could put some (bike)mirrors on these.
    Thank you

We have been hit on several occasions as well, but my fear is for the little ones, their feet or hands if they should fall in front of one, or just the danger of being hit by one. Not good
Some people try to turn back their odometers. Not me! I want people to know why I look this way. I've traveled a long way, and some of the roads weren't paved.

Seriously, I don't see how you can regulate them without getting into serious trouble with the ADA act.

On the other hand, I can't wait to see the first instance of a lawsuit over an accident with one of them.

Unfortunately cruise lines -- especially HAL will not limit the number of scooters on board a ship.

On one of cruises - Eurodam -- there had to have been over 50 scooters and a ton of wheel chairs (some motorized).

Just on our recent cruise we had 3 dogs on board -- one was part of an act; the second was a seeing eye dog (wore his service coat); and the other -- just a dog.

Yonnie, regarding the dogs on ships, the tide may be turning to only having service dogs on ships. No more people "having" to have their dog with them.

The reason for this change? Allergies to dogs! Up in Canada the equivalent to the ADA rules are now beginning to see allergies to animals as valid and Air Canada is having to rethink some of their policies.
