It hasn't stopped me from wanting to cruise. In fact, I leave tomorrow morning!!!!!! I'm looking forward to this cruise even MORE than I did the last one. Let's face it, I'm addicted. I'm always cautious and aware of my surroundings but worry, no, it's just not going to happen.

The internet and all of the news sources we now have keep can keep us very well informed about what happens. Much more so than 15-20 years ago. Things like this have always happened, we just hear more about them now.

I feel safer flying or cruising than I do driving the freeway.

Although the recent happenings are tragic, they do not put me off. I feel that I am in more danger crossing the road than flying or sailing.

No, not at all. It is more dangerous driving around town than flying or cruising. When it is your time, it is your time, so live your life to the fullest.

This is probably a good question to ask those who haven't cruised before and are not yet addicted to cruising. The lastest news hasn't changed my mind but might make cruising less of an option to those who haven't cruised before.

I was talking to a stranger today and Alaskan cruises. She really wanted to see Alaska but was rethinking it with all the latest news. She asked a lot of questions such as do I feel safe on a cruise ship and did I think the news was giving criminals new ideas. I wonder if the cruise lines will be seeing a drop in new bookings.

I wonder if that will make for new cruising incentives...like lower prices!

I've got to agree that we cruise-addicted folks are not the ones to ask. Heck my car bumper sticker says "Will work to cruise". Those that had thought about a cruise, but have never taken one, could certainly be "scared off" by the media sensationalization, but those of us who have cruised, though aware of the dangers, aren't deterred, just more cautious.
I will not go to bed ever again on board a ship or in a hotel without my travel bag laying next to our bed with all my meds, passport, credit cards etc. in case there is an emergency during the night. Until now I have been lax at that.

Sure would be nice, but with HAL noting at the beginning of the year that they already had 60% of cabins booked for 2006, I suspect that won't be the case as a result of these incidents.
That said, I had Enron stock, so I will keep an eye on prices.

i think 9-11 frightened the bejeezus out of me and as a NY'er who worked in the trade center - in fact my father was an ironworker on the first tower and was at the topping ceremony - and i am very aware of where muster station is and i set up with my husband where we will meet if we aren't together and there is an emergency because i'm not running off the ship without him. flying? don't even get me started on that since 9-11. the only reason i've skydived is to get out of the plane.
