I can assure you that next time I muster though I will pay closer attention to the instructions and take notice of my muster station. I have tended to be quite lax about that.
Good comment! Probably, many of us have been way TOO LAX! Know for sure I have!
Agree, Terri, think many of us will do that as well!

I agree with the above posters. It won't make me change any plans, but I will be very diligent in my research for ANY shore excursions that are not through the ship.
On the subject of the fire---I'm with you Blizzard--THAT worries me BIG TIME!!!! HOW did that get so bad so fast???? I'd love to see no smoking in any cabin or public room NOT designated for smoking, but reality says that will not happen, so I'll just try to be aware of my surroundings, more alert at Muster drill and go from there!
I'm a firm believer that when your number is called you have to answer. So i (we) intend to carry on with life, living it to the fullest enjoying each other, our freinds and family until our number is called.
As to the sprinkler question posted, from the most recent reports we are seeing, the fire was pretty much on the balconies so the heat was not intense enough to set off the sprinkers in the rooms, though I think any room that had a fire probably did set off that sprinkler.
As to the muster drill, well at this point, I think I could recite the drill word for word so I probably will day dream some at the drill. HOWEVER since we missed our exit on our last cruise, and had to double back, you can bet I'll pay more attention to that on our next cruise.
Hey I said I feel when your number is called you have to answer but I don't want to answer a wrong number.
All I can say about life is, 'Oh God, enjoy it!'

Maybe we are winning enough for our next cruise OR NOT
Yesterday I was on a flight from LA to Albuquerque and a very disturbed individual was on the flight. We was not drunk. Drugs? Mental illness? I don't know. Self-important A&&? Most likely. Either way, he cussed horribly at me, at the man accross from me and at the woman sitting next to him, then got up and went to the bathroom where he did what? - He started smoking. This is a 1 1/2 flight folks, on a very small 50 seat plane. There was ONE stewardess. He was brought out of the lavatory and told to remain in his seat. He was borderline violent. The passengers even came up with a plan to restrain him if he went nuts. VERY, VERY Scary. All because he couldn't go 10 minutes without a cig.
Wow! So you met Shane from Survivor!
I, to, would have been very nervous in this situation. Was he arrested at the terminal?
I could get shot, hit by a car, struck by lightning, earthquake, heart attack, anything at any given moment. Today is the first day of the rest of my life. My body began dying the second I was born just like it does for everyone. However, my life began living the day I was born too! I've got a lot of living to cram into a small period of time in the next 40 to 50 years. You can either begin the process of living or begin the process of dying. It's your choice.
As to only doing approved shore excursions, etc. I will do any shore excursion that appeals to me and I am personally comfortable doing. The time that distinquishes your life from everyone elses is the time you spend off the beaten path. We went with some friends this past weekend and left our normal "safe" hangout to go to what some might call "a dive" and not in the good part of town. I call it "fun" I had a blast! You don't know where the edge is until you have at least gone up and peeked for yourself

Had I never cruised before, these incidents might give me pause to want to cruise.
However, with a few cruises (and lots of great meals) under my belt, I have to put these into perspective. Accordingly, NO, we will not alter our cruising plans. But, at the same time I hope to learn how to be better prepared for contingencies and will continue to stick with reputable excursion operators. But, there are still no guarantees in life regardless of how careful one is.
I feel badly for all the families who have been adversely impacted by the van accident and ship fire.
