    Favorite onboard activities

What do you like to do on the ship besides eat and watch ocean waves? Do you mostly relax, stay busy, or alternate busy periods with relaxation? Does it depend on the trip itinerary and duration or the ship you are on? I want to know what a perfect sea day for you is and what you would do when the ship is in port if you didn't want to get off it.

My first cruise will just be an introduction to cruising, but after that one, starting with the Sapphire Princess next year, I will only start to relax on a sea day after my late supper because I want to hear lectures, take classes, watch demonstrations, swim, hear music, and watch stage productions. For me relaxation will mean sitting on my balcony watching water, in a hot tub, or at the library with a book. I would only stay on the ship when it is in port if it's boring - for example, Ensanada on a Hawaiian cruise.
Stay tuned for my review of the Sapphire Princess northbound repositioner

My wife and myself like all activities such as trivia games, shuffleboard tournaments, free throw tournaments, dart tournaments etc. We play mini golf and bowled on the NCL Gem. We are not pool people. I enjoy the casino poker tournaments, rolling the dice(craps) and slots. She loves Karaoke (I would be banned with my voice) and we both like the piano bar sing alongs.

Hurray, this is my 500th post.
Former cruises: NCL Gem to Bahamas, Carnival Triumph to Canada, NCL Spirit to Western Carib., Carnival Pride to bahamas, NCL Pearl to Alaska.

NEXT CRUISE: Pride of America around Hawaii May 16th, 2015

We enjoy doing many of the same things that Kirkz enjoys. We are not pool people either!

Trivia is always fun but watch out for some of those diehard players that will do anything to get the prize! Whew! Some of them are just plain funny to observe once you "get their number"!

I don't see myself playing trivia on a cruise, but if it had a theme - for example, cats of the world - that I am interested in, I would go, time permitting.

When I asked my mom what she wants to do she mentioned slot machines. I know my chances of winning are very slim, so I never play the slots. My guess is she will want to take a yoga class with me and watch cooking demonstrations. But she's not a swimmer or game player.

My ideal day on a ship is to sleep in and then eat the breakfast that hubby brings in from the buffet (even though he never brings me enough OJ). He'll eat there and then hang out with his girls while we eat. I'll see if there's an interesting movie on the in-cabin TV as I love getting caught up on my movie watching. Else, I'll turn on whatever news channel is showing the business news so hubby can watch.

The girl and I will take turns getting washed up. She'll take off to meet her friends. Hubby and I might hit the gym (not fun for me but I need the exercise) or take a walk around the outside deck. We might then relax in the hot tub and then return to the cabin to wash up.

Then check out what's for lunch in the MDR and decide whether to eat there (usually not), the Horizon Court, or go to the poolside grill for a chicken sandwich.

After lunch, hubby might get out his guitar and I'll help him carry his music and stand to his new favorite spot on the ship (where he can play). On the last cruise, it was by the Vista Lounge and many times, someone waiting for a spouse who's playing bingo in there may sit with us and listen to him play. Sometimes ship officers will be walking by and give him a . I'll have my puzzle book out and work on that (my relaxation). Then I might go get us a snack for a mid-afternoon nosh and bring it back.

An alternative is to hang out in the pool area. Hubby may do some laps while I read a chick lit book.

Late afternoon we try to get to the afternoon trivia match (we were part of a team that met regularly).

After dinner, we may see one of the shows or hit a lounge and listen to some live music. Then we go to back to our cabin and watch a movie before falling asleep. We did go to a couple of the Movies Under the Stars on our last cruise (would have seen more but the weather wasn't that great...my daughter and her fellow teens saw a lot more of the movies there).

I just love sitting on the balcony maybe reading a book or just watching the waves.
(I know I wasn't supposed to say watching the waves )
