I agree. If you say hi to someone and they don't say hi back, that is a little rude.

But I always think of the word SNOOTY to mean condescending or acting like they're better than everybody else. That's why I was wondering what you meant earlier by snooty neighbors. I have seen some rude people on cruises but never saw anybody act snooty.

In that case I certainly agree with you, I would definitely respond to you or anyone else that would greet me. Some people are just plain unfriendly and in their own world, don't let those folks get to you. You did your part, you are the nice one, and do not give them a second thought.

I think of "snooty" as being and acting "stuck up" for whatever reason. I come in contact with people like that at work at times. The term I usually hear when things don't go their way is "I pay your salary" I have an answer for that but no one wants to hear that here so............................................

I don't like people like that and would hate to be stuck with them at my dinner table for a week or ten days. Having said that, I would not let them ruin my vacation! To get back to the original question because I seem to have digressed, No, we've never had them as neighbors on a cruise!

We've been very lucky! On our last cruise, we were lucky enough to have a suite, and our neighbors walked by and looked in and, I think, thought that maybe we were the snooty ones. But we noticed them peeking and invited them in! Five minutes later we were talking like old friends....

My husband and daughter decided to have breakfast in the main dining room on our Oosterdam cruise and they got stuck with some snoots...the lady waxed snooty about all the cruises she had gone on, how this was just a bore compared, how big their house in Conn. was,how much money they had... blah, blah, blah...I felt bad, since our teen daughter really had been looking forward to that breakfast...The day before, my husband and I had taken our breakfast there and sat with the loveliest man and his Dad...it's just luck...sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.

Been fortunate to not have experienced any of that. On the 2 cruises we have been on everyone has been very nice. We have been fortunate in our dinner companions also. As far as neighbors, other than to say Hi, didn't really have any interaction with them. At least that we are aware of.

    Cool Snooty Neighbors

People are the same on ships as they are at home. :thumbsdow

Generally we have been lucky with all the people we have met.

It is really hard to get upity when you are standing talking to an older man in a tux that has Peppy Le Pew slippers on and he does not take life real seriously...

Haven't had any snooty neighbors but on our last cruise we had some major party animals next door. Almost every night the party started at 12 and ended somewhere between 3 and 4. It was during spring break. Most nights we just slept through it.

But on the last morning of cruise, there is a knock on our door. I open it to find the 2 guys from next door, standing there with a VERY expensive bottle of scotch in hand. They wanted to thank us for being so nice and not complaining about their late night parties.

Thought it was a very classy move on their part.

LOL I would have gone over with a spatula!!
Some people try to turn back their odometers. Not me! I want people to know why I look this way. I've traveled a long way, and some of the roads weren't paved.
