Hi and welcome to CLF. Sorry I can't be much help on cruises from San Diego, but I am sure other members will be able to help.

I know you will have a great time on a cruise which ever you pick.

Rates are so good, go for a week. Better experience and good value. I love cruises, but I vote for a week in a lower cabin category if $$$ is an issue, rather than 4 days in an oceanview. Good luck.

PS. All cruise lines have pictures and videos, so I would go there for general info. You don't want pictures of me and some fools at the bar.....

A cruise for honeymoon is a really good idea.
I did it in 2006 for my second weding, with both sides children (5).
It was a cruise in mediterranean sea, with stops in greek islands (ptmos, mykonos, santorin) and Turkey (Izmir).
As we were 7 people, I booked inside cabins on ship (Costa Romantica). Even that, it was a marvelous experience, full of nice souvenirs.
Since that, I did two other cruise with my wife, and selecting outside staterooms.
If $$$ is not too much a problem (maybe an effort is to be done for honeymoon ???) select a stateroom with balcony and have a look on all small attentions available, such as flowers or fruits in the cabin ... massages ... and keep some money for excursions and shopping !!!!
Anyway, if it is your first cruise, you'll certainly be happy with it ! I hope so !

to CLF and congrats on your upcoming marriage.

You may want to tell us when (what month) you're thinking of going on your cruise as there could be limited options as to short cruises from those ports.

As for Los Angeles, currently only Carnival has four-day cruises out of Long Beach (the sister port to San Pedro, which is the Port of LA). The Paradise goes to Catalina and Ensenada RT on its Monday thru Friday cruise, and just to Ensenada on its Friday thru Monday cruise all year round. We have gone on the 3 and 4-day cruises to Baja a few times on other Carnival ships, only because it was convenient for us. We've also been on the Paradise, but back when it was doing Caribbean cruises.

Carnival also has some cruises out of San Diego, currently on the Elation, that are 3 to 5 day in length. The Spirit also sails from there on longer cruises, going farther south into Mexico. But these two ships sail from SD only during the fall, winter and spring, as far as I can see from Carnival.com. So I'm guessing they do the Alaskan run during the summer.

Royal Caribbean has the Radiance of the Seas also departing from SD on shorter (I think 5 days) cruises, but again only during certain times of the year.

Holland and Celebrity also use SD but for longer cruises.

As for Los Angeles, I think the only cruises shorter than a week cruise are the "repos" (the repositioning cruises of a ship from one region to another), usually when a ship moves up or down from the Pacific Northwest. Other than that, the ships that normally leave from LA are going on 7-day cruises down to Mexico (RC's Mariner of the Seas, the Sapphire Princess, the NCL ship -- might be the NCL Star) or the two week RT to Hawaii (the Golden Princess), which I wouldn't recommend as a first cruise as leaving LA going to Hawaii you can run into some rough seas.

Please feel free to check out the various areas of CLF, such as the individual cruiseline sections and the Cruise Places section (http://www.cruiselinefans.com/cruise-places/).

If you have specific questions, always feel free to ask. Hopefully, if you ask in the right place, someone with an answer should be able to find your question.

If you want more info on Los Angeles (for pre or post-cruise), let me know as I was born and raised here (I'm known as a "Val," one who grew up in the infamous San Fernando Valley part of LA). I also highly recommend San Diego as a great city to spend some time in, too.

Trust me when I say you need to seriously consider a longer cruise if possible. The shorter cruises will be on smaller older ships and simply don't offer the niceness and amenities of the larger newer ships. I think you'll be much happier if you do a longer cruise on a nicer ship. As was stated and I agree, a longer cruise in an inside cabin would beat an oceanview cabin on an older ship.
