    Question Class of Ship

Honestly, I never know on which class of ship I'm sailing. How do you know which ship is in which class?

About all I know is "sister ships" within the same cruise line are the same class of ship ... but I never know what that class is.

Does this "class of ship" confuse anyone else?

I think that for Carnival the Conquest, Glory, Valor, Liberty, and Freedom are all in the Conquest class. Beyond that, I'm lost. I suspect that the ships that share deck plans in the Carnival brochure are all in the same class; but how can you tell which class?

Doesn't matter, Lulu, as long as YOU have class!

A "class" of ship merely designates the platform (or blueprint) that it was built on. While the Destiny, Triumph and Conquest may look similar, they are actually 3 different classes of ship.

Most people do not know all the different classes, for all of the different cruise lines, unless they work with them every day, or if they have cruised A LOT.

If you want to know which ships are in which class, go to the cruise lines website. They usually break down their fleet by class of ship.

Have never had a problem with HAL ships.

Prinsendam -- in a class of its own -- wasn't not originally built for HAL. Smallest of HAL ships.

S class ships -- Maasdam, Ryndam, Statendam, Veendam -- next smallest ships. At one time they were all the same gross tonage -but now that the Veendam has added the extra cabins and Retreat -- her weight has gone up.

R class ships -- Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Volendam and Zaandam. Middle size ships.

Vista class ships -- Noordam, Oosterdam, Westerdam and Zuiderdam

Signature class -- Eurodam and coming out in 2010 -- the Nieuw Amsterdam -- largest of HAL ships.
