    Waiting List

Has anyone been put on a waiting list for a type of cabin befre? Not particularly a specific cabin except one uder the club or dining room. I was going to upgrade my cabin deck, but when I saw the difference for the OCV is only $50.00 more, I decided to go with an OCV. The balcony is just out of the questions right now. I'm getting a good rate to upgrage from my IS to an OCV room on the Glory, but the only OCV rooms available are on the Riviera Deck (stern, not portholes. Too close to engines?) and the Upper Deck. On the Upper Deck, the only rooms available are in the 7204, 7205,and 7206. these rooms have an obstructed view with a railing, on a a public deck and possibly a life boat in front of them. I called my PVP on yesterday to see if any other OCV's had opened and she said everything was booked, but they may have cancellations on OCV right before final payment is due on May 26. She put me I was on the waiting list and stated that I may get preferred status due to being paid in full, past guest and military. She told me also to check the websites to see if anything oepend up, which I do almost daily. Any other suggestions or ideas?

Are you getting the military discount? It used to be 25% on Carnival, but they've recently lowered it. That type of discount has allowed us to afford balcony.

Yes, I did get the military rate. I love the military rate, but one issue is when the military rate sells out. I got an interior at a good price. When I first inquired to upgrade the military rate was sold out, so I would have to pay "the difference" to upgrade. No problem there, and when I called back, seems as if some military rates/cabins had opened back up. I don't know how timely they are in informing you that a room opened up, so as I always do, I'm going to keep searching the web to see room availability. I'm on the computer most of the day when I'm not in school. I tend to switch between this site, my schools site, carnival and cruisesonly.

    Hey PW,,
The wife and I did a Glory cruise last September. Ouside with a window. Non Porthole. We were on the Riv. deck, kinda midway towards the rear, port side.
We really had no problem with noise. It was a great room, great price and we really enjoyed it..
The only time we had any "Noise" was when they were opening holds or moving stuff in the storage holds below.. But even then, it was not bad..
    Hope this helps...

I'm obviously prejudice on the matter, but you really should book this with an agent instead of Carnival directly. First, as you mentioned, when you book with Carnival, you're the one that has to do all the work - you have to keep watching the space, make the calls, ask questions, etc. A reputable agent will monitor the rates for you and keep their eyes on available cabins and their services are free to you, so let them work for you.

As for the prices, you'll pay exactly the same amount whether you book directly with Carnival or with an agent. However, an agent will watch for specials that may lower your rate and get them for you even after final payment has been made - Carnival will not do this for you.

Okay, I'll get off my soapbox. Let's talk about 'waitlisting'. It really does depend on how full the ship is, what types of cabins are available, etc. Occasionally, people will put a hold on cabins, sometimes for up to a week, while they think about it and try to make some plans. If things don't work out, they'll let the hold go and the cabin becomes available and it's now available for someone else. If you're on a waitlist, then you might be able to get one of these cabins unless an agent happens to be on their booking site and picks it up first. Just last week, I had a client book three cabins; two oceanview and an inside. They wanted them all together, but that was not possible because of what was available. We put them on a waitlist for a better inside cabin, but we found one 8 hours before we received a notice that our waitlist request had been accepted. By watching the cabins, we first managed to move the inside cabin to an even better inside cabin than the waitlist provided. Then we got an oceanview cabin across the hall, and the next day we were able to get another oceanview cabin next door. Everything worked out well - then we managed to find a special that lowered their rate - now everything is perfect. Depending on the cruise line, they'll normally release these cabins sometime around 10:00pm-12:00midnight, so that's the best time to be looking for vacant cabins - however, Carnival's office is closed at that time, which is another reason why it's best to use an agent since they can pull up the availability on Carnival's booking site and see real-time vacancies.

But keep watching, even after making final payment, because sometimes they'll offer specials that may have the oceanview cabins for the same price or less than inside cabins. And although the military rate is good, don't assume that may be the best rate - look at resident rates and senior rates (if you qualify) as sometimes these can be better. Often specials can be very limited in time or quantity, so you have to check every day.

    Hope this helps.

Amen, Cruise Planner! I've called Carnival at off hours, only to receive a recorded message. Thanks for the "heads up" on the advantages of using a TA.

Thanks for the information, lesson learned! I like doing the research on my own, but this is becoming a bit much. LOL
I have my mom's 60th birthday cruise to plan for next year and I'm definitely going to use an agent.

It doesn't cost you anything to use the services of a travel agent...and it can be worth a pot of gold to you!

I'm another one who uses a TA and if you have a good one, they are worth their weight in gold. My TA always has my best interests at heart and if any problems arise, he goes to bat for me. Also if there is a price drop, he takes care of that for me too. Booking through any cruise lines directly, doesn't give you that piece of mind or customer service.
