    Anyone cruise in late Sept.

I just booked a cruise on RCL to the Bahamas in late Sept. I've cruised many times, and finally talked another couple into joining us. Does anyone have any experience with bad weather cruising at that time of the year?
    Thanks
    BJ

September is peak hurricane , but you are going at the end so it should be OK. I just booked one for October 8th 06. If you are flying into port, I would suggest going in a day early, and be sure you get cruise insurance. That way if you happen to be caught, you won't have delays traveling, and if it should be cancelled, you won't lose your money!!! Also, the ship won't go near a hurricane so your weather cruising should be awesome. Ours always have been and we cruise different weeks through the month of October!! Welcome to CLF BJ!!!!
Some people try to turn back their odometers. Not me! I want people to know why I look this way. I've traveled a long way, and some of the roads weren't paved.

    sovereign 10-10-05

we are booked on Sovereign of the Seas October 10. We cruise that week most years and huuricanes have been over for the most part.Always really nice weather, not too cool yet.
We always fly in a day early because the schedules never get us there on time from Denver. Thats OK, our vacation just starts 1 day sooner.

I have cruised twice in Sept and did not have a problem either time.

Keep in mind that if there is bad weather, the cruise ship will go somewhere else! They know you want a good vacation, and that means sunny skies. On the TV special about the Sovereign of the Seas refurbishment, they showed the ship's captain deciding not to go to Coco Cay, based on the weather predicted for later that day. Even though it was OK in the morning, the seas were already getting rough (and since they were tendering to the island, that became a Big factor), and they went somewhere else with better weather, smoother seas and stayed at sea that day.

As far as I can see, the ONLY problem with sailing then is that the itinerary is not guaranteed. I wouldn't plan a wedding on one of the islands on a cruise in Sept. But if you are willing to get on a ship and leave the driving to the captain, you will have a FABULOUS time.

MC is absolutely right. Just look forward to a lovely, relaxing time on the wonderful sea, and don't get youfself all invested in the importance of visiting a partaicular port or ports...

We have cruised several times in September, and will do so again this year.

Thank you all for your input. I'm a little concerned because I finally convinced my husband's cousins to join us, this is their first cruise, just want them to have a great time.
This is also a surprise for my husband, he has no idea we are going on a cruise or that his cousins will be joining us.

Glad you are feeling better about this, BJ. I think you surprising your husband with a cruise is GREAT!!!! I would love to hear how you are going to do that. Mine has a hard time taking off from work, so I would have to produce all sorts of arrangements for a different kind of vacation to make sure he got approval for vacation time.

In the flurry to answer your question, I didn't see that you are new here.

Welcome to CLF to BJ and Kadey!

We have cruised twice in September - had no weather related problems at all. But as Sue and others have mentioned it is peak hurricane month in and around Florida (think 2004 - like all us Floridians do ). Just cover all your bases and purchase trip insurance and consider the possibility that your cruise could possibly end up somewhere other than where you booked.

But just don't let the though of "what might be" deter you from the cruise.

Always look at the bright side!! If your itinerary is changed, it makes for a wonderful mystery cruise like we had in '98!!! Our "new" itinerary was announced day by day, cause every ship in the water went western!! We had a blast!! All the passengers on all the ships were waving to each other!! We had a blast!! It is all in the attitude!!!
