We usually do the family and friends routine. My wife and I have gone alone 3 times and we met a couple on one of those cruises who are now very good friends.

For most of our cruises, we have sailed with just ourselves.
Twice, we have sailed with a group of our USAF-retiree friends and we shall be doing that again next month on a Holland & Belgium river cruise! 12 of us!

Most of our friends have little rugrats and can't afford to go on the vacations we go on (advantage of being rugrat-free!)...but if we could find friends who could afford vacations, we wouldn't mind booking a trip with them....
