It has been quite a while since we took our Panama Canal cruise on HAL but I would have to say that the entertainment on that trip was the best we ever experienced.

I think overall the best we've ever seen was on Disney. While their food isn't all that great, their entertainment was absolutely wonderful!

We did see a black comedian on a Carnival cruise for the adult show who had us in tears we were laughing so hard.

And on an RCCL cruise we got to see Jay Johnson, who is a ventriloquist and use to star in the TV show 'Soap'. He was amazing!

After 41 cruises, we've seen alot of the song & dance shows, so we don't go too much anymore, preferring instead to see the special or guest entertainers.

On RCCL , Jewel of the Seas I saw one number in a production show, in 2007, that I would dearly love to see again. I would book a cruise just to see it . I went back to the second show of the evening just to see it. It was a musical number from Chess, the not so famous musical about a chess tournament and love affair. The number was staged on a chess board with the dancers as the pieces. It was called " Nobody's on Nobody's side" .

We were on the Allure last year and I have to admit that the ice show, as always, was very good. The show in the Aqua Theater was truly unique. And the two production shows, one was from the musical Chicago and the other was a make-believe underwater show (can't remember the name), were both very good.

I only have NCL and Carnival to compare and chose Carnival. They got the nod because of their new comedy clubs. The comedians everynight were fantastic. Their own showpeople were better than NCL's. NCL does have Second City TV comedians who are also very good.

I voted Princess. It has been a few years since we sailed with Princess but I remember the shows and they were much better than any other. They had more outside entertainers and we really enjoyed them.

I've only been on two lines so I don't think it's fair for me to vote. We enjoy the big production shows, even if they can be on the corny side. Some have been better than others.

I like comedians too. One on the Sapphire Princess in 2004 started off badly but before we can consult on whether to skedaddle or not, he started to show a slide show, comparing one cruise he supposedly was on with the Sapphire. It was hysterical. Undoubtedly he got some crew members to pose as ones from the "other line."

Another type of entertainment we like are the deck bands. I think the live music really adds to sailaways and sunny afternoons by the pool. On our last cruise was this duo who also provide many of the activities and cultural seminars. She was raised on the Big Island of Hawaii and he's from the midwest and during some of the sailaways from the Hawaiian ports and in the Piazza they would play Hawaiian music. Very enjoyable as was the pop/soul band that performed a lot and the string quintet that would play afternoons in the Piazza.

I have only been on two cruise lines so I am far from being an expert but part of what makes entertainment great can just be the luck of the draw on any ship at any time. We had a great juggler on HAL- one of the reasons he was so good was because she started to playfully heckle him (he loved it and kept giving back to her) Anyway the banter continued until he dragged her on the stage to "assist" She stopped his act at one point when she could not catch a single ball in the net he provided and he brought out a large three foot net to "help" her. She responded just as he started juggling again with her comment "be the ball". He drooped two of the balls because he started laughing. From that point on, whenever we were greeted in the halls people would exclaim "You are the ball!"
