    Photographs

During your cruise there are opportunities to pose for pictures.. as you board the ship .. as you disembark in port and in the evenings on board ship for formal nights .. here's my question.

First do you pose for these opportunities and secondly do you purchase them?

After 41 cruises, the last thing we need is more photos! Unless it's something special, like when we got a picture of us with Mickey on our Disney cruise (which was great!) or when we were in Hawaii, we don't pose for pictures anymore.

And what I hate is that some cruise lines force you to take your picture before embarkation resulting in long lines that don't need to be there. We found a very long line once and it was due to the backup for pictures. Much to the dismay of those in line, we walked around everyone, walked around the picture taking display, and walked right onto the ship.

I don't mind if they have one - it's great for first timers, but don't make everyone feel it's mandatory. I understand they make a great deal of money with pictures, but allow those of us who don't want them to go around without any problems.

I read a story once that said Carnival makes an average of $1 million per ship per year in profits selling pictures. So pictures are definitely big business on a ship.

Honestly, not anymore. Although we have had some candid shots taken on the spur of the moment and they were the best. We even bought them

You need more choices, as we pose at ports and formal night. We buy SOME pictures, the ones that we like the way they come out, never all or rarely. Most of our pictures we take ourselves such as on port with the ship in the background but we do like some of the port pictures when getting off the ship and we always buy a couple of formal shots.

I rather work at avoiding the ship's photographers! Sometimes they get upset, but then I express "upset" and they usually back off!

I do enjoy searching the Gallery to see the photos. And, I've been known to buy when there's an unusual or special picture - such as when I took my kids, their spouses and we did a portrait on formal night - but the embarking, disembarking shots, NO!

Formal night shots at dinner seem to be unavoidable, but, since I know that I'm not going to buy a copy, I put up with them!

I'm sure there's still money for the cruise line. But, I wonder how long it will last, especially in this day when virtually everyone has either a picture-taking cell phone or a very capable digital camera of their own.

I used to buy pictures on each cruise, but now I only buy one if it's really good or something special.
