I usually wait until the cruise to find out. But I've found that a really good CD makes a difference. The one on our last cruise was basically non-existent except on the wakey-wakey show. And even then, I didn't find him too enthusiastic.

After our last two cruises, I have decided that the cruise director can either make a cruise good but uneventful or an over the top experience. Our Century cruise had a cruise director whose name escapes me at the moment but who was excellent. Deb told her it was our anniversary and she made it a point to greet us from that point out. She also made the cruise special for us by sending us a anniversary treat to our room. She went out of her way and the cruise went from very good to remarkable.

Ditto for our last cruise. We saw Rich many times during the cruise and he made a point to remember us and to say hello. This cruise will also go down in our list of fantastic cruises.

No, I will not seek them out for future cruises, but I know having them as our cruise director will make for a better cruise.

I really haven't much to do with the cruise director. HOWEVER, some have been really funny! One outstanding was not well-liked by his peers. But he made videos which we watched on TV in our cabin and he was hilarious. Our last one had a booming voice. I can't remember much more! Oh, once we had a very friendly Dottie.

I do check to see who the CD is. As with all things a good one makes the job look easy. I have only had one bad CD but that really did make a difference to the over all experience.

A good CD has a lot to do with the onboard experience. But who actually has the position has nothing to do with what ship or itinerary I pick.

I hope for a good one, but I haven't cruised enough to know different CD's. I had one great one on my first cruise and I remember her name because it was Julie, just like the "Love Boat", but I am still picking cruises by itinerary and price and hope for the best when it comes to the CD.

Since I normally cruise small ships with less than 700 passengers, we have the opportunity to encounter the CD often. It's nice to know before hand who the staff on the ship might be, but just for information. I'd more often like to know who the bartenders are!!
