Just did. It looks like it is a combination algaecide/ chlorine/ mineral system for pools. Sure looks like it makes things easier than the old fashioned mixing and testing. I remember having to shock pools with large doses of chlorine!

Actually, with The Frog the use of chlorine is optional. DH told me the chlorine comes in big capsules which can be placed in the skimmer. Some do this to cut down on the use of the mineral packets which tend to be expensive. If the mineral and algaecide levels don't get screwed up, it's not needed. He told me that this year he has not had to use any ... but last year he needed to twice. He takes the pool water in to be checked about every week or so.

When we first got the pool about 25 years ago, we used a product call Baquacil which is basically non-chlorine. Mostly, it was good ... but our pool always now stays completely clear with The Frog.

Wonder if any cruise ships had tried to use a non-chlorine system for their pools?

Lulu, I just got a nice e-mail from King Technology (maker of the frog) Very nice people and very helpful. Would definitely consider their products if we had a pool!

We've used the pools some of the ship....the problem I find with most public type pools is that the chlorine is very strong and it has a tendancy to irritate my skin.

Sharon, that is why I found Lulu's frog solution so interesting. The chlorine content is less than a quarter of normal chlorination.

We considered doing Baquacil which is also not chlorine, however it's very expensive. Chlorine is a cheaper solution, especially were a public type pool is concerned. I just went and looked up the Frog system and that was interesting. With the amount of people in a public pool, I'd like to know how it would hold up. People who don't own pools aren't always the nicest about certain things, if you know what I mean. Not even getting into the obvious issue that people do, just body oils can be an issue. So glad we don't deal with a pool any longer!
