I ticked off several choices. I think the process of disembarking -- getting your luggage, etc., can be tiring. As many of you know, on our last cruise we had the problem of our shuttle service screwing up. That got us tired and mad -- and as soon as we finally got home and brought in our stuff, I was on the phone trying to get a hold of their customer service (had to leave a voice mail). But our friendly mail man did stop by with our vacation hold mail, saving a trip to the PO. That was nice.

We have yet to have more than one cruise booked at a time, so I couldn't click on that option.

Mal de debarquement (or Mal de débarquement) syndrome (MdDS, or disembarkment syndrome) is a rare condition usually occurring after a cruise, aircraft flight, or other sustained motion event. It has only recently received attention and very little real scientific research has been conducted. The phrase "mal de débarquement" is French for "disembarkation sickness".

Symptoms most frequently reported include a persistent sensation of motion usually described as rocking, swaying, or bobbing; difficulty maintaining balance; extreme fatigue; and difficulty concentrating ("brain fog").

Interestingly, the condition often abates when the patient is in motion such as in a car, train, plane, or boat. Symptoms are increased by stress, lack of sleep, crowds, flickering lights, loud sounds, fast or sudden movements, enclosed areas or busy patterns.

In MdDS, the symptoms persist for more than a month, possibly for many years, and sometimes do not resolve at all. This differs from the very common condition of "land sickness" that most people feel for a short time after a motion event such as a boat cruise, aircraft ride, or even a treadmill routine.

MdDS is a neurological syndrome with no known cause or cure. Research is being undertaken.

I am always feeking sad when the cruise is over -- I just want to stay on the ship -- sometimes forever.

We either have family or our housekeeper keep track of our 2 dogs, 1 cat, and three aquariums while we are away. In fact, a few times my MIL has arranged her visits with us to include a week alone while we are off on cruises. Since she is a full time RVer, she has no problems with it as she arranges her winters to be in Texas with family.
