I voted no. I know what I like and read the favorite authors or subjects on a cruise the same as I would at home.

Yes is my reply! No reading about stock investments, business, and health issues on cruises.

I'll read ANY fiction book where the story takes place on a cruise or a location we'll be visiting.

Some of these can be quite good and well written. Others, can be total pieces of trash that I'd be totally for others to know I'd read.

I'm embarrassed to say that I read very few books whether at home or cruising! I seem to be incapable of getting past the first couple of pages before dozing off! Doesn't matter whether it's an exciting story or a dry report!

My late wife read everything everywhere. On our very first cruise in 1994 (a week only), she was ready to take her usual week's supply of some dozen or so library books. I suggested that maybe she'd have to haul that suitcase herself in airports and such. I think she scaled back and only took four books!

Today, of course, she could take as many as she wanted, so long as they're all in a Kindle or Nook or whatever!

When I took my daughters and sons-in-law on the Westerdam in 2009, one daughter announced proudly that her Kindle had 15 "classics" loaded, in case she should be bored! I asked her on the last night what she'd read. She acknowledged that she'd never even turned the Kindle on!

Since I own a Kindle, I just take whatever I have loaded on it. And I always have authors I like to read on it. On my last cruise (B2B) I finished 7 books. I guess you know what I did on sea days. I love to read.

I usually try to read for fun no matter at home or on vacation, but especially on vacation, nothing serious. I wouldn't bring library books on a trip, though, just in case they get lost or damaged. Plus, I would try to bring along paperback books if on vacation. Takes up less space and are less heavy. Usually books by authors I like (Cornwell, Kellerman, etc.), plus one or two chick lit books. I also bring guidebooks for the location.

My sister just gave us an e-reader that she found on deep sale. So my daughter is trying it out (came with about 25 classical books). The problem is that the instructions aren't too clear about charging. It says not to "overcharge," but doesn't explain how to do avoid that. While charging, the screen goes dark so I can't see if it's still charging (unlike a cell phone that has the little charging action going on until it stops). I was hoping it be pretty stable for taking on our next vacation, whenever that is, so I could load some guidebooks on it.
