Thread: When do you perfer the Mediterrean? And why?

I did not pick anything because I'm still deciding when I want to go. Right now it looks like in the summer but I don't know yet. Still leaving my options open. Your comments will help out in the selection. Also the poll results.

Hi I am not a beach lover and enjoy visiting the cultural sites and in summer it's often too hot to do this comfortably. Added bonuses are that number of fellow tourists is still relatively low and the countyside is still green and lush

we enjoy the summer in the med -- the majority of our med and baltic cruises were then as we only had part of the summer off to cruise then and could not get time off together in the spring time when we would have liked to gone

The best time to visit the Med is from late April to mid June and mid September to mid October.
During these months the weather is pleasant and the sights are not crowded. This is also the best months to pick up some good deals on cruises.

From mid June to mid September the weather is way to warm and with all the crowds it will be unbearable.

From mid October to end of November the weather can be a hit and miss. We have done many cruises during these months and have had wonderful weather.
The temps will normally be in the mid to high 60F during the day. During the night it will be cold. Usually to cold to sit on the balcony.

December, January and February are usually wet and windy. I would maybe do a cruise to the Canary Islands during these months but not to the Western or Eastern part of the Med.

I picked spring and fall, too hot for me in summer and too much chance of bad weather in winter.

And August is when most of Europe goes on vacation!

We used to take land trips to Europe twice a year before we retired. My favorite times to be in Europe are April/May and September/October. Altho October can bring some cold weather.

The only reason we don't take Mediterrean cruises because we've always thought late spring or summer would be the best times to go and we don't care to cruise at those times of year. Are we right or wrong?

Lulu, late spring in the Med is around May/early June so that period is perfect.
The summer is way way to warm and most of Northern Europe have vacation time in July .Southern Europe have vacation in August.

When do you prefer to take you vacation??? January/February??

Sept/Oct would also be good. I wouldn't cruise after that.
