When you are on a cruise do you keep intouch with the real world to see what is going on , family etc . Or do you , like me. completely immerse in the experience. Don't watch TV news, read newspapers, contact family, ?
The rest of the world does not exist.
Just e-mail to family when in port
just e-mail to family occasionally
e-mail every few days , TV news also
Yes , e-mail,web,TV , newspapers, every day
Other ?

I e-mail and love to get replies. I really enjoy hearing from friends & famiy(not necessarily in that order!!!) when I am away.
As to the news, I will watch it on TV. DH does also, but he gets the little news flyers and reads about the stock market etc.
Perhaps we do this because we usually go away for about 3 weeks, so we like to keep in touch.

I chose other. We will watch the news when we are in the cabin but don't make it something we must do. Now that we get 90 minutes of free internet when we are sailing Celebrity, we will check email and Bob checks our bank and credit card accounts every few days.
We cruise to enjoy the ship experience and keeping in touch with home is not high on the agenda. If there is an emergency family knows how to reach us......oh, and they have orders NOT to contact us for any emergencies unless or until we would be able to leave the ship and fly home. NO calls while we are in the middle of the Atlantic! If someone dies they will still be dead when we reach our first port of call and can get a flight home.

we have no family -- so don't worry about e-mails
when wee are in the neptune lounge picking up a snack -- we will watch the news on the tv there -- but that is just for a few minutes
tv in cabin -- rarely put it on -- has to some great world event for us to turn on the tv
hal isn't getting newspapers for the ships anymore

Cruising is a wonderful way to enjoy retirement!!
Stopped counting after 110 cruises.
For the most part the rest of the world doesn't exist!
Our children know how to contact us in case of a real emergency with them and they need us to come home. My very good friend and neighbor knows to contact me if something horrid happens to our house. (I have instructions to do the same for her.)
DH and I have an agreement: He doesn't watch TV in our cabin. I don't check stock quotes or get on the computer ... so don't expect to hear from me when we're cruising.
About the only thing we've ever done is watch a few ball games in the sports bar or MUTS.

I checked "other" because I'm sorta a news junkie. I like to be up on current events. My hubby will check the business news as he likes to keep up on that (he was an econ major in college and I was a journalism major, so it makes sense). He doesn't check in on work --his co-supervisor should take of matters even if he's an idiot (I never met him, but his memos and emails are poorly written).
We'll watch movies in the cabin as we usually don't get a chance to go to the movie theater, especially hubby. There was an interesting documentary-type of movie on our last cruise about the last princess of Hawaii and a documentary about an early woman TV writer that peaked my interest too.
We don't bother with getting on the computer at all while on a cruise (maybe when we get some free Internet at platinum status). Except this time, my daughter and I did go to the Apple store in Honolulu to use their computers (even though the mac was frustrating to me to use since I don't know the keys) and then we spent about 15 minutes on an Internet cafe computer in Kauai. Onboard, I went with one of my new friends to the Internet Cafe so she could send a friend request to me on Facebook (I didn't accept until I got home) and she checked her work and personal email (she gets free Internet credits at her status).
Before our cruises, I always make an itinerary sheet with contact numbers (Princess and my cell) and we give to at least one neighbor and to relatives (in this case hubby's brother and my sister). I'm not the type who likes to be on the phone anyway, so I certainly don't want to be gabbing on one during vacation.

There have been quite a few posters and it looks like I stand alone on this one!!
My friends & I phone or e-mail eachother from our vacations. Once, in Rome, I bought a phone card. It was such a bargain!! One night we returned to our hotel early, and I phoned just about everyone. They were so surprised! And I had so much fun!!
My kids have the attitude most of you have. So it is pulling teeth to get them to e-mail me. But I am working on it!!!!
Enjoy! It's all good stuff!
The rest of the world does not exist when we're on vacation.![]()
