When I was a formal employee of the insurance company, I negotiated 4 weeks vacation due to my experience level - but before that it was 2 weeks and 2 weeks only. FOR YEARS...........

Now that I am technically self-employed, I tell my contractors to be aware that I take 4 weeks off per year. Of course, I have to budget that into my life now, because I will no longer receive wages when I take that time off.

AllieMan has been with Hyatt for 18 years now, so he's earned 4 weeks off per year. But that kind of company lifepsan is almost unheard of anymore. Most people I know earn 2 weeks off (with the exception of those in education and as far as I'm concerned they really do EARN their summers off!)

Because I am one of the owner's of our firm, I can pretty much take as much vacation time as I like. Having said that, I try not to abuse the privilege.

I typically take between 4 to 6 weeks a year but there have been a couple of years when I have gone over 6 weeks by a few days, but that was the exception.

I get zero vacation days. Any vacation time I have is my own time and unpaid.

We do get a certain amount of vacation pay, paid into a fund by the producers and paid out once a year in a lump sum. This is in our union contract, and no doubt the spineless whinnies that run our union will give this away, like many other perks we have lost over the years.
