    After Katrina, the company that owned the paddlewheelers sold the ships to a different company, but they had trouble making a go of it, partially because the oldest ship was no longer allowed to sail. Mississippi River Cruises - Delta Queen Steamboat Co.

    There is another company that had barge cruises on many of the major rivers in the US as well as on the Intercoastal Waterway in Texas. They were forced to shut down in '09 due to the economy. RiverBarge Excursion Lines - 4 to 10 day excursions on America's waterways

    The number of people (especially those retired) now spending several days driving to Florida, amazed me!

    On our last cruise so many from Canada and New England drove to Fort Lauderdale.

    I work for the airlines so I would prefer to drive! If I'm not on a cruise, I'm in the air so I prefer to drive.
