Travel Insurance what is your position Now?

With everything that has been going on recently ..Has the current Volcanic eruption /no fly situation caused you to rethink your position on Travel Insurance?

    Please comment if you desire..

    No changes here!

I always recommend it and always will. Alot of things can happen to ruin a vacation, so there's no sense to lose your money as well.

As I always say, you hope that purchasing travel insurance is a waste of your money. Because if you need to use it, it's usually not for a good reason. But if you need it, you're damn glad you've got it.

Just be careful and make sure you're purchasing travel insurance and not travel protection - there is a big difference and travel protection is not governed by your State insurance commission.

I do but never sure I have the right one. Any suggestions from the pro's????????????
Some people try to turn back their odometers. Not me! I want people to know why I look this way. I've traveled a long way, and some of the roads weren't paved.

Sue..It pays to be just as diligent in reviewing not only the insurance policy, but the Insurance Provider as well before you purchase, I like to ask “Is it the right policy for the trip I am planning”? Some Policies offer additional compensation for travel delay, in addition to rights to cancel for ANY Reason at any time before departure with no penalty.

Some policies offer assistance in foreign countries and some do not.

Policies normally are written to reflect the standards of the home state of residency of person purchasing.. It’s a good Idea to make sure the policy you purchase is receptive to your home state laws, this is especially important when it comes to the definition of “family” “family” the definition is different from policy to policy some include mom dad and children , some blood line only thus in-laws, domestic partners, sometimes unfortunately aren’t considered family under that policies definition.. be sure to ask!

Many people recommend Travel Insurance - InsureMyTrip.com. However, while that site is full of information about coverages, it does not provide you how well their service is, which is a major part of the equation. We use to use 5 travel insurance companies, but had to fire several of them because of their bad service when clients needed them the most. Some of these are big names and very well known in the industry. Just goes to prove that being well-known or having a good policy does not necessarily mean they provide a good service.

The best thing is to work with your agent as they will normally have one or two companies they've worked with for many years and have had good experiences when clients filed claims. Two companies I've used with very good results are Travel Safe and Access America.

I always purchase insurance -- this is the only trip detail that ever caused problems between my husband and me -- he didn't feel we needed travel insurance.

He has now changed his tune after our recent cruise that started in Santiago/Valparaiso 3 days after the 8.8 earthquake hit in Chile. It was an adventure getting to the ship with a two day delay in Santiago because of port damage in Valparaiso. We have submitted a claim for 2 days of expenses and are awaiting the claim to be processed. This is the first time, thankfully, we've ever had to use our insurance but we're glad we had it.

There were many who didn't have insurance other than through their credit card companies -- a lot of worried people wondering if they'd get anything back. There are so many limits and rules.

We have a very good TA that helps us with making our choices every time we travel. Sometimes one company is better than another -- definitely need to do your homework when making the decision.
