    Titanic Memorial Cruise

Fred Olsen Cruise Lines is marketing a Titanic Memorial Cruise for April 2012. The ship will retrace Titanic's route across the North Atlantic while the 1309 passengers (identical to the number of passengers on Titanic) will dine on the same menus and listen to the same music and entertainment as Titanic's passengers.

This idea makes me uneasy. I've expressed my feelings more completely on my blog. What do you think? Is this a good idea, an apt way to commemorate the tragedy, or is it a bit insensitive, a commercial ploy?

I did know about the cruise but I did not know they were going to these lengths to recreate it. I think it would have been appropriate if they had wreaths to throw overboard at the site, but hearing this xtra stuff it does sound commercialized and that is sad.
Some people try to turn back their odometers. Not me! I want people to know why I look this way. I've traveled a long way, and some of the roads weren't paved.

I don't know all the details, but what you have outlined seems to be a bit over the top. Personally, I would not want to re-create the daily activities that those unfortunate passengers experienced.

What do they plan to do when they reach the time of sinking? And what will they do afterward, since there was no "afterward" for the Titanic victims.?

I agree with you, I am not at ease with the plan.

Seems to be in bad taste to me.

    Lulu,

I'm very uncomfortable with the whole concept. It's not only in bad taste, but there's also an added element of hubris that I simply don't like.

    Char and Sue Miller,

There will be a memorial service of some sort at 220AM on April 15th at the coordinates of Titanic's sinking. Doesn't set my mind at ease, however.

I've had a couple (a couple that just got married) take a "Titanic" cruise before. Same route. Same Time of year. For their honeymoon.

    Me I don't know if I would.
