My worst was also my first.

The old Regent Sea April 1994. When we checked aboard, we were told that the ship's air conditioning was malfunctioning. We were offered a fan, which we took without question.

The fan was useful only in that it kept the air moving while we slept; it certainly didn't serve to cool us.

There were daily, almost hourly, assurances that the a/c would be back up "soon." Guess what? It wasn't!

The entire guest list got really quite angry and many threats of suits were made.

In the end, the entire guest list was given a "free" cruise within the next year. While that soothed many, it also served as a probable downfall of the cruise line which went belly-up in April 1995.

Turns out that our cruise was at least the sixth where the same situation prevailed, and the same "pay off" was offered!

I've never come any where near such an unfortunate experience in all my cruises since, nor do I ever expect to!

After a start like that, it's a wonder it did not put you off cruiseing all together.

My turn. Glad I found this thread. And I bet you all know what I am going to talk about. We did not have the trouble cleaning up but on my cruise from Hell on the Holland America Noordam, combine a bad case of Noro (you don't know whether to sit crouched over or on the toilet) with an uncaring staff (we will give you gatorade to keep your electrolytes up, by the way, the water to mix the powder with is $5.00 a bottle. You can't hold any food down? Well Sprite is still $3.00 a can. You are confined to your room and want something to do? Movies are $5.00 each to rent). Then add an exploding ship supplied hair dryer that showers you with burning embers and gives you second degree burns and the same uncaring staff (The infirmary opens in half an hour, can you wait till then to go down there? No? Sorry, nobody is on staff right now).

As a final culmination, we notified corporate of all of this and they gave us a $250 credit off our NEXT Holland America cruise.
