Have you encountered Southern Sting Rays, Eagle Rays, or Manta Rays during your cruise traels?
Which ones?
Were these encounters while swimming, snorkeling or diving on your own?
Or was it during a ship's or indy stingray encounter or snorkeling excursion? WHERE DiD YOU SEE THEM? Have you ever kissed a Ray????
If you have never experienced such an encounter, would you like to, or would you rather not?
Please tell all!
And, if you have pics, please feel free to post them.
I have seen lots of Southern Sting Rays, both on organized excursions and while swimming and snorkeling on my own. They are SO graceful and gentle... it's amazing to see them glide through the water, occasionally flapping their wings - almost like they are flying.
Once, I was lucky enough to have a nice, long encounter with an Eagle Ray while snorkeling on my own at CocoCay. She was a real beauty! It must have beem a 'she' because this one was HUGE, and the females do tend to be the larger ones.
I've encountered them 3 times on organized excursions to Sting Ray City in Grand Cayman. They give you food to feed them and warn you that it's possible to receive a hickey from one while they eat They'll glide right up your body to get to the food. The guides also tell you to do the stingray shuffle and not lift your feet around them so you don't step on their tails.
It's one of our favorite excursions, they're so gentle.
I do have pictures from 2 of the times, but it will be quite some time before I could post them as they're being stored 2-1/2 hours away

Some people try to turn back their odometers. Not me! I want people to know why I look this way. I've traveled a long way, and some of the roads weren't paved.

Sue, I'm not sure what other islands offer Sting Ray excursions? But if you ever go to Grand Cayman it's a must do excursion. My niece (who was 25 at the time) is afraid of fish but we convinced her to do it and she loved it
My pictures are up our mountain place and I'm heading there this weekend. I'll have to see if I can find them so I can bring them down here to scan & post.

In addition to Stingray City in Grand Cayman, where were some at Eden Rock in Grand Cayman.
Once, we were on a catamaran excursion in St.Thomas and there were several around in the cove where we were docked. They came right up to the catamaran and seemed quite friendly. The captain reminded us they were not as tame as the ones we may have seen in Grand Cayman so not to try to pet them.
Also, we've seen one or two when snorkeling in Aruba and from time to time in several other places in the Caribbean -- but not up close.
I have no idea of what kind any of them were.
Judy .... I'd love to see your pictures when you have time!

We have done the organized excursions twice in The Caymans. I probably would do it again if I were with someone who hadn't done it yet. They are so fun to pet and feed. Next to swimming with the dolphins, this has been one of my favorite excursions.
