    Cruise ship railings

Well, Congress has decided to not be stupid and require cruise ships to have railings 54 inches tall instead of 42 inches, how do you feel about it?

Good. They are high enough for the normal person. If someone is intent on going over they wii climb on something to get it done. On a ship there are any number of places to jump/fall and railings of any hight would not stop it. They only way it can stop is if they enclose ships totally.
Some people try to turn back their odometers. Not me! I want people to know why I look this way. I've traveled a long way, and some of the roads weren't paved.

There is nothing wrong with the hight of the rails now. You can't fall over the railing unless you are doing something stupid.

It sounds like someone in congress decided to do something right, by not doing something.

    54"

If anyone is wondering where 54" came from, it is the height for sidewalk rail on bridges as specified in the AASHTO specifications for roadways & bridges. AASHTO is the design code all US bridges and also adopted by many other countries.

Personally, I have no problem w/ the present height.

54 inches is TOO high to rest your arms on while gazing at the ocean! For us shorter folks, anyway. What's next, prison bars on our verandas?
