The Voyager of the Seas this past week pulled into the port of Villefranche with numerous cases of some type of flu like illness.
Even though French officials initially said the 62 crew members and 2 passengers tested positive for Swine Flu, Royal Caribbean says that's not the case. A cruise line spokesman says they all tested negative for Influenza A. (H1N1 falls under type A)
NEVERTHELESS Health officials do expect H1N1 to ramp up come fall.
That being the case, the likelihood of it spreacing in confined spaces would be a concern.
Would YOU be concerned? Concerned enough to reconsider fall or winter cruising?
If you are already booked on a fall or winter cruise, will you take any extra precautions before or during your cruise? If so, what?
I would still go . Wipe down cabin, Use a wipe on doorknobs, elevator buttons, rails etc.
Some people try to turn back their odometers. Not me! I want people to know why I look this way. I've traveled a long way, and some of the roads weren't paved.
Most people walk into and out of your life . . . but FRIENDS leave footprints in your heart
I wouldn't cancel, but would make sure I washed my hands more often and would probably do as Sue memtioned with the wiping down if HINI had been found onboard my ship.
Delightful prose deserves response,
So I'll deliver on the nonce,
I had Noro and that was bad,
No shore excursions made me sad,
Another problem I did see,
Were Spanish channels on TV,
My big complaint, though,
Was every night,
I couldn't eat,
And they charged for Sprite!

It will not stop me cruising, there is as much chance of getting flu at work, or out shopping as there is on a cruise. If I am going to get it, I will.

Cruises booked: Queen Victoria November 2009, QM2 May 2010 and Queen Victoria March 2011.
I would go and wipe and clean along the way. But when is flu season? It appears to be year round any more. I am going to get a shot this year. My DH gets a shot every year and I usually can't get around to it. This year I will. Another year older you know...

Loved your response! There's hope for those of us addicted to doggerel yet!
Seriously, sorry to hear that you fell ill on a cruise. Happened to my Son-in-law 'bout a month ago. He essentially lost 5 days from an 8 day cruise -- and the remaining three days weren't exactly a box of Godivas. He was laid low by one of those 'Please let me die -- temporarily' bugs. It isn't a nice thing.
We always get the flu shot and this year will be no exception. I take those wipie things with me each time we cruise and wipe down things before we even touch anything. Even the little knobs on the lamps. Don't really know if it helps or not, but it gives me peace of mind. I'm not canceling a cruise because of this H1N1 stuff.
