When some of you say you'll never cruise a particular cruise line again because of a bad experience you had on a cruise - do you ever think it could be just that one particular ship you were on which had that particular problem, and maybe not the entire cruiseline?
I could agree with you but after dealing with corporate, I will never sail on ANY HAL ship again.
What is interesting is that Yonnie loves HAL. This is a prime example of two people having totally different experiences.
I've never been on a cruise ship I didn't enjoy. I've been on over 40 cruises on many different lines and ships, and could probably find faults with all of them, but none that would defer me from ever cruising with them again.
Emerald Princess, Feb-08, Voyager of the Seas, Nov-07, Osterdam, Mar-07, Radiance Of The Seas,March-06, Zuiderdam,Nov-06.....and 40 others
Agree that one disappointng cruise should not by itself rule out a whole cruiseline. But human nature as it is, if a ship did not come up to my expectation, when it comes time to book another cruise I will pick a line I had good experiences or a line I never tried. They all go to the same destinations and are somewhat simularly priced.
With that in mind I no longer consider HAL. We did a 17 day with the average pax age 79. Mind you I am a senior and had no problem with an older crowd. What bothered me was the ship took into consideration the age and shut down after the late (practically empty) show. Night club had a DJ that put the music on auto and left. Casino was empty. No other late activities, same every night.
I only checked NCL. We have been on 3 Princess, ! ea. Carnival/ RCI and NCL and 2 MSC.
The reason behind not ever wanting to cruise with NCL again is their Free Styly cruising. We had a very hard time trying to get reservations at the free extra resturants and the service really was not that great. And as to the main dinign room except for one night we wanted to eat with others and did not get a chance. It seemed that the people that go on NCL really don't want to meet others and the waiters did not seem very happy having to be in those big rooms with no customers ( you would think that with no customers they would be very attentive to the few there but they were not).
We never saw our cabin steward. We left a request for the refrid to be emptied so we could put our water bottles in and had to do it ourselves.
There was a very large group of TA's on the cruise we were on and if you weren't part of that group or spending a lot of money at the pool bar you could forget about getting any service around the pool.
While I did not check RCI we probably would notcruise with them again since the price is highbecause of the extra things such as flow rider, rock wall, ice skating that we would never use.

Costa. We tried them twice...yes we gave them a second chance even when first crusie with them was not great. Far tooooo many languages every time they announce anything......too much smoking.....food not great....they paid little attention to seating peoplea at dinner with people who spoke the same language...just won't do it again

So it's true about the smoking on Costa?

Hmm, I heard that somewhere many years ago which was one of the reasons I put Costa in my "no" list. This is one topic that I think needs more exploring.
Costa bills itself as a predominately European and Italian line and the Italians are far more lax about smoking than is the US. Wonder if this is why?
