    Selling freebies on auction sites.

I have just been looking and Cunard items on a well known auction site and foundfor sale:

A black Cunard ticket wallet. Which the seller said was rare, but everyone gets on with their tickets in. Can't be that rare then.

A Cunard World Club "gold" member's pin. I given free to anyone on their 3rd Cunard voyage.

A post card of QM2, everyone gets 3 or 4 of these in their cabin.

My question is do you think it is right to sell things which are available for free from the cruise line?

I have gone for yes if it's something old, but selling things which are still available free, seems to me, to be just plan wrong.

    I agree with you, Stephen.

However, we seem to be in a society of internet shoppers and it costs a lot more to actually go on a cruise than it does to purchase cruise memorabelia.

It's always buyer beware when internet shopping!

I honestly don't see a problem with someone selling their freebies ... however if they go and clean out the steward's supply to do so I think that is just plain wrong.

I understand people being willing to buy the items ... I have arrived home a few times and wished we had the pen, pin or whatever was given for free only to realize we had left it on board. Most things I wouldn't be willing to "pay" for thru an auction site, but if the cruise was a special one I can understand doing it.

I don't really see a problem. If someone has something someone else is will ing to buy, so be it.

    Yes, sure its is ok.
Not so much to make money out of freebies but for collectors to be able to purchase memorabillia.
During our last cruise we were asked at the M&M not to sell the freebies and the stuff passengers won at the raffle.
We won the Royal Caribbean mouse.....any bids????

As long as a passenger was given the item and didn't help themselves to the steward's supply, I'm okay with selling them.

We got one, too! Not the big deal it is cracked up to be!

We've given away most of our freebie prizes we won playing Trivia/games on board. I think the shopping bags have value because it will replace the use of plastic bags and even mail them away to friends and family for their use and encourage their use. The pens go to our favorite restaurants because they always need pens. Our other prizes may go to our competitors on board who never won anything on that particular trip. Share the wealth! Most of the stuff we won have limited value and I doubt they will be scarce in the future. A few items maybe collectibles in future but I won't be around to see that.

I really don't have a problem with people selling there stuff on ebay I just wouldn't do it, only because I don't have the time. I just put a bunch of the M&M freebies in the Goodwill bag. I mean how many of those name tag thingies do you need? And last cruise they were giving away the "Get Out There" stuff by the hand-full because of the new ad campaign. I came home with at least a half dozen RCL pens and key chains I joked I was going to make ear-rings out of the key-rings.
