We've always had balconies and have always used them when sailing into and out of our ports of call. Our favorite though was the aft balcony on the Panama Canal transit nothing like viewing the locks opening and closing from that point of view.

Diane-
I so agree! We had 1604 on Jewel for the PC and it was a totally awesome experience watching the locks from our balcony on the way back thru. Got some great photos!

Whenever I have a balcony I use it all the time, first thing in the morning to last thing at night. Love the balcony and this Nov we will have an aft one...first time.

We are insiders as well. We tend to take longer cruises and a balcony is at least an extra $1000, which I am not keen on spending.

Most of my friends (not all!) can't understand how we do not mind an inside, but frankly it's all the same to me!

When we book a balcony cabin I use it as often as I can. For morning coffee and cigarette. For reading, watching the senery and arrival/departures to/from ports.
If I didnt what would be the point of having a balcony??????
I dont spend the extra money on a balcony just because of our habit.

A lot of frequent cruises are insiders; more money spent on cruises rather than balconies. I prefer balconies only for warm climates or scenic places like Alaska. Otherwise, an outside window is good enough.

Definitely, I spend more time on the balcony than in the cabin, not including sleep time.

It's not the type of cabin .... It's how much you enjoy the cruise!
