    Golden age of design

I am huge fan of watching old ship video's on Youtube and was watching some the otherday and thinking" this must have been the Golden Age of Ship Design"

The ships I was watching video's on were the Normandy, Rex, Conte de Savoia, France, United States.

Some were built in earlier dates than the dates I voted in on the poll, but since they saw active service during those decades, I casted my vote there.

In 1968 Woody Hayes was asked why he went for 2 points vs. michigan. He replied "because I couldn't go for 3"

My grandmother had an old Cunard poster of Aquitania in her bedroom. She always said, "In her day, she was the finest of ships."

    .... so I picked 1901 - 1920 ....

Do you have any pictures representative of the years you have in the poll? I don't know what they all looked like.

It depends. There were great ships and turkeys in almost every era. Wait for the 2040's With fuel costs going up, there will be some magnificent efforts to reduce drag and to improve aerodynamics.

I picked 2001 - present day. I think ship design has come a very long way. It's always amazing when a new ship comes out, seeing all the new innovations in the most enjoyable bit for me.

I just would love to know what ships will look like in 10 - 20 years time or even 20 - 30 years! Flying? Cities at sea? And what will be on board? Where will they dock? How large will they get before big, becomes too big?

I have gone for 1961 to 1980. Not only because QE2 fits in there. Before this ships looked good, but did not have things like Air-Con. After this ships stopped looking like ships.

Harry, I think they may have got to the point of being too big already.
