Smile Alaska or Hawaii--> Which one?--> Why?

If you were going to suggest either Alaska or Hawaii, which would you suggest?
Provided you could only choose one?
    Why or Why not?

Hawaii for me. But only if we sailed round trip from the west coast. The sea days are fantastic. The islands are gorgeous.
But don't misunderstand. Alaska is my second choice of anyplace to cruise!

Agreed. That was one of my favorite cruises ever, never been to Alaska though so I can't comment on that. I do know Hawaii rocks!!!!!

See, thats the thing...We usually sail out of Galveston, becasue we can just drive to port. My g/f has only done cruises out of Galveston, I have done Alaska and Bahamas. But, next year we are going to do a 'big' cruise. (to us this means one we will fly to get to) So, I was leaning toward Hawaii (yes, mainly because of all those lovely seadays)
But OTOH, Alaska is so majestic. So right now its 6 of one 1/2 dozen of the other...

Having been to both places, I wouldn't want to miss either one! But given the choice to do either again, it's Hawaii handsdown.

    We have done both--several times!

LOVE Alaska! Been 5 times and hoping to go again this year. It is different every time we go and the beauty of the land never ceases to amaze me.

Hawaii is also a good one, and I agree with Hanna that the only way to do it is round trip from California. The sea days are awesome and you don't have that long flight...which for us is twice as long since we live in Florida!

If you do Alaska you should do a land tour first and then the cruise. You want to be able to relax after the land tour.

I totally agree with this. You really need to include a land tour (Denali and the Alaskan Railroad are just fabulous) and you need to do the land portion first. While the land portion is fabulous, it's not the most relaxing experience in the world. Unwinding & being pampered on the cruise ship, along with the fabulous sights (make *SURE* it includes a glacier viewing!) is the way to finish up the trip.

I definitely vote Alaska. While Hawaii is a totally awesome place, most cruises spend way too much time at sea compared to the time in Hawaii. I know some people love the sea days, but I love seeing Hawaii! I just haven't been able to sign up for that Hawaiian cruise yet, knowing how much of it wouldn't be in Hawaii...

That would be a hard decision to just go on one or the other. Our last two cruises were an Alaskan cruise (RT out of Seattle and Hawaii (RT out of San Pedro). We did the Alaskan cruise strictly RT as we figured that would be an easier way to go (flights would be cheaper than going to one city and leaving from another). We ended up taking the train, though. Plus, we figured our girl, who was 7 on that cruise, wouldn't be interested in a cruisetour.

The Hawaii one has to be one of our favorites. It was 15 days and since then my hubby says seven day cruises would seem too short for him. We're talking about doing this one again as we love the sea days and we could drive to the port.

We have only been to Alaska but loved it so much and plan on going back again one day. Hawaii doesnt really appeal to me. I am sure whichever you choose you won't be disappointed.
    Have fun.
