Lorraine,
Have you been on any lines other than Princess? What does Princess have that they don't? (Overall, I would agree with you, being on a ship is a lot better than not being on a ship!)

Hi Neilberk, I cruise P&O,NCL,Star, besides Princess.( and other lines in the past).

I like Princess because of the service, cleanliness of ship, great dining, friendly crew.
I always arrive home , saying I had a fantastic time..
am of the opinion...if you don't enjoy yourself on a cruise, then it's your own fault. You can join in as much as you want, or veg out with a book or sunbathe, the choice is there all the time.

I have not cruised on as many different Princess ships as others though.
so far it has been
Pacific Princess
Regal Princess
Sapphire Princess
Dawn Princess
Sun Princess
each of them several times over.

kind regards, Lorraine

I keep thinking about trying Princess but most of the opinions appear to be that people either love or hate Princess, that the food is not as good as/much better than RCL, and that the crew is friendlier/nowhere near as friendly as the other lines.

Lots of conflicting viewpoints so I guess I will have to try them somewhen along the line!

Oh yes, I have to disagree with you on "if you don't enjoy yourself on a cruise, then it's your own fault". On our last HAL cruise I got Noro virus and was confined to my cabin for three days, my wife got it the last day of the cruise so we had to cancel our specialty dining reservation, and I got severely burned when the ship hairdryer exploded in my hands giving me second degree burns. It is hard to be optimistic with all that! Oh yes, at three of the ports the ship docked while I was confined to the cabin, we were facing the water from our balcony so I could not even see the islands from our room.

I hear the same conflicting reports about Carnival, too. People seem to absolutely love it or really hate it. Funny how the reports can be so very different!

I suspect some of it has to do with exactly which ship you sail within a cruiseline, and probably even more important whether it's a quickie spring break party crowd sailing ...or a longer cruise with a more relaxed atmosphere.

Hi Neal, I am sorry you had such a bad time, but I never meant illnesses etc, I just meant day to day activities...we have been on beautiful ships, but the day to day activities were either non existant or suitable for kids only.. that's when I veg out with a book etc.

kind regards, Lorraine

For the most part I agree with you. And you try not to sweat the small things. For example, they ran out of cheddar cheese for omelets on out TA on Celebrity. I just had Belgian waffles.

On our first HAL cruise some of us just got together and had our own impromptu game of Pictionary. On our TA I met this interesting gentleman in the library. We got together a few times for chess (which I have not played in years!) On our ill fated HAL cruise I ended up kibitzing three days on a group of people playing bridge. They enjoyed my company and loved my suggestions.

You are right, the cruise is what you make of it.
