I think we'd appreciate the music on Cunard, but we are not attracted to the formalities. I have found an ALL expenses paid smaller line that seems to have similar standards, HEBRIDEAN. They have a large list of speakers/guides.
We were looking at Linblad, Voyages of Discovery,
We were looking for a cruise that would concentrate on the history of certain regions, cultural differences, that sort of thing. I see that there are some European lines that have some lecturers with good credentials who sail with them, and National Geographic has some great looking wildlife cruises.
Some of those cruises seem to spend more time at ports and are more interesting while on board.
Noble Caledonia seems to concentrate on river and coastal tours and makes many interesting stops with fewer entire days shipboard. I think you'd have to arrange for your own tours, though.
I think we may end up flying to Europe and getting on one of those, so long as they speak English.
I have somehow got the impression that certain cruises are reminiscent of frat parties, but for an older crowd - maybe I look at too much Utube.
