Looks like I will have to add princess and celebrity to the list, when the 2010 brochures come out I will have to start doing some price checking.

We're looking at Oceania or Azamura...not sure which. Any pointers? We haven't sailed on either.

Hi Cindi,

Oceania is well known for being a top quality luxury cruise. They have a solid reputation for being one of the best, and they have a loyal following. Azamura is a newcomer in this niche..not sure how it compares yet. We sail with Regent, another one in the luxury catagory. You might also consider SilverSea.

All of these types of cruises cost more...sometimes a whole lot more. If you shop around you can often get a great deal with one of them. In any case, you definitely get a lot more. Lots of things will be inclusive, and service and food will be a higher level. But not everybody wants all that and these cruises aren't suited for everybody...not everybody agrees it's worth spending the extra money for that next level. It's only worth the extra money if you care about the things that set these luxury lines apart.

What are you looking for in a cruise? What's your idea of fun on a ship?

I know someone who has cruises with Azamura and she said it was the best cruise she had ever been on, and she has been on quite a few.

Lankster, if you get the opportunity, pls ask her if she's sailed with any of the luxury cruiselines, for comparison's sake. A person could hypothetically sail quite a few different cruiselines...but if they are all mainstream, and then they try Azamura, then I could see how that might easily be the best cruise they were ever on.

But the thing I was wondering is how Azamura compares to the other luxury cruiselines. I have not figured out yet if they are trying to fill a gap between mainstream and luxury.

I belive Azamara is trying to fill the gap between mainstream and Luxury.
Azamara is supposed to be an upscale premium line together wilh HAL and Oceania.

Stephen, lots of good ideas here. Personally I favor HAL for the Northern European route. They seem to do an excellent job from everything I have read and we hope to give them a try eventually......
