We did have an oceanview cabin twice. The first time we were upgraded to an OV. And one time, on one of our shorter cruises, we decided to book an OV and we have a far aft cabin so we were able to look out and see where the ship had been.
We just about always book insides. We figured we'll save money for our next cruise, it'll force us to get out of our cabin more often, and my hubby feels he sleep better as he's used to sleeping in dark, dark rooms (when he worked graveyard shift, he outfitted the master bedroom with curtains/shade that completely block light when closed). We will often keep the bathroom light on in the cabin and that door ajar so that if one of us gets up in the middle of the night, we can find the john.
Patty, so John cruises with you too?

Only balcony cabins, sometimes sky suites but have to be able to sit outside on the veranda and sip our red wine. Already for our 3/31/08 Constellation cruise, can taste that Merlot now.
I don't mind if I have an inside cabin or an ocean view. I have been lucky...2 inside cabins and 2 ocean views (one is coming up). I don't spend that much time in the cabin...we are always going and going until we stop from exhaustion! LOL
The good part of having a balcony is that you can collapse from exhaustion in your own space---even in your PJs
We spend more time in the cabin when we have a balcony than if we don't. I think the fact that you can still enjoy the sea and be outside any time you feel like it without going to a public area is a big factor in our choice.

We do think so much alike. I've never been in an inside cabin, but always had OV and then had my first balcony on my last cruise and did that because my Mom didn't walk very well and I wanted to make sure she could get out and see part of the Panama Canal crossing. WHY didn't I book a balcony sooner? LOL If I have to, to save $$$, I'll book an OV again to get to cruise, but really want a balcony.
We pretty much just book balconies now. There was a time when we did a lot of inside cabins to save money and they are ok. We have just reached the point that we can indulge ourselves and we chose to do that.

We booked our first balcony last year- and were willing to go back inside with the kids- and finally decided to book two cabins for the space- one inside and one balcony...The best of both worlds. To get to better ports/ places we are willing to go inside and we'd be happy- but oh I did enjoy being able to sit outside on the balcony early or late and be in my pj's !
