I would say it depends on the group. One group I would avoid is the Bingo players cruise. I think if we knew we were on a Bingo tourney cruise, maybe we would had changed our sailing to another date. And now that we know how obnoxious they are (sorry if you're into bingo, but they were very obnoxious).

So far it seems that most everyone would choose to go anyway. Unless they are hanging out in the areas you frequent I don't think you really realize how many groups do go.

I would go anyway, I was part of three cruises that were a cops convention. I think the regular pax had the time of their lives.
Imagine, an entire cruise ships filled with cops. NO RULES!!!!!!!!
On one of them, the cruise director who wore a toupee, took a rather unwillingly swim in the pool.
Then they stole one of the race horses and held it for ransom.
Oh yeah and the ship ran out of Coors LIght before we ever got to Bermuda and we only left from New York. GREAT FUN

This has happened twice to us and I would change either ships or date. Found that certain rooms would be closed off for special functions that the group would have. There was once a religious group and I was not allow (so I was told) to ride the elevator on a certain day with men in the elevators and we had a Suite (full price). Well I rode it anyways and boy did I get some dirty looks, oh well! Also it cause a huge problem in the kitchens.
Have sailed with large groups twice. Some things were more fun and other things not so much but over all not bad enough to change plans. But there would be certain groups I would not want to sail with.
