Have no choice but to fly.

There aren't any cruise ports near us.

It would take us about 4 days to get to Florida to go on a cruise, so 3-4 nights accomodation and meals, gas, etc. and it's almost as cheap to fly.

Since we can get to any Florida port in a day (then spend the night), we LOVE to drive.

We certainly aren't afraid to fly (have had to on business most of our lives) ... but HATE hassle!

If it's more than a 3 hour drive for us we will fly. Getting to the point of not liking to drive long distances.

I voted fly since there are only 3 Florida ports within driving distance and no itineraries that interest us from those ports..... Jacksonville, Tampa and Port Canaveral.

We fly to Miami or Ft. Lauderdale and all other ports outside of Florida.

LULU - How many hours does it usually take you to get to the ports?

The terminal is 17 and 1/2 hours from us. (according to Yahoo Maps) and hubby says he can drive it straight through with Potty and meal breaks of course. BUT it is definitly going to be an interesting trip, we have never been in a car together that long before..... We will be in such a Happy mood, when we get to the cruise.... BUT at least he will sleep alot when we get on board...LOL

From our house in Columbaia, SC .... we are normally about 5 1/2 hours to Port Canaveral ... to Port Lauderdale is 8 hours ( more or less depending on traffic) ... to Tampa about 6 1/2 hours(depending on Orlando traffic) ... We don't drive directly to Miami ... would spend the night near Ft. Lauderdale and then drive to Miami.

    We make stops as needed!

We're 50 miles away from the World Cruise Center in San Pedro (The Port of L.A.), and if the traffic isn't so bad, we can get there in about an hour or so (the 118 freeway to the 405 freeway, past LAX, to the Harbor freeway). The last time we did hire a car service as we had 15 days worth of stuff, including two large suitcases and a guitar case, that we knew wouldn't fit in the truck of either sedan.

The next closest ports would be Long Beach (only a little further) or San Diego (about 300 miles), but we haven't sailed from either one yet.
