The same is true about Montego Bay.

I haven't been there yet. But I have read more bad than good about the crime and pushy vendors, so I don't think it would be the safest port to get off the ship.

I was in Ocho Rios a few years ago. Did a ship's tour to Dunns River Falls and then to a beach via the water, not land. We had no problems but there were a couple of police boats with guns around all the time. Did not wander around on our own. It looked like a real pretty island.

ZY .... We are more comfortable in Ocho Rios than MoBay ... but, it does not keep us from getting off the ship. Just consider not "wandering around" to isolated places OnYourOwn.

I think Liberty OTS stops at Montego Bay. I guess I'll explore ship's excursions, rather than trying something on our own.

I have been to Jamaica several times for land trips and once during a cruise. I think it's a good stop if you know what to expect! Tourist areas are the best bet for the non-adventurous or non-street smart, but all should be careful and aware of their surroundings. You can save money by taking a registered cab/taxi or tour guide around the island for a flat rate thats at least 50% cheaper than the ships tours and they go to the same places. The beaches, Dunns River, shopping and eating. Unless you're realy familiar with the area or have friends or family on the island what else is there to do?

I've only been once and had no problem. Yes, we were approached by those selling their "wares" (the green stuff) but, it wasn't that bad. We were on a private tour, just me and my DH, our tour guide was awesome.

Beautiful island, mon!

We had a great time seeing the beauty of the island (with a tour guide). Unbeilievable beauty! Also lots of bargains to be had when shopping!

I Loved Montego Bay. Yes I as a Female would not go there alone ...but I could say that about alot of places in the US that I have been too also.
Yes the people are very pushy trying to sell you their crafts but I never had a problem with any of them.. I Just said "No Thank you" moved on, always treating them with respect.. The island is very Beautiful and I am glad that I was able to visit Montego Bay!

I have taken a ship excursion to Dunn's River Fall and it was WONDERFUL! We had LOTS of fun and I think as long as you take a ship excursion you should be fine
