Jamica is one of the ports on our upcoming cruise and I will probably opt to stay on the ship. I have read lots of things and it really doesn't appeal to me so a nice quiet ship will!!!

The one time we've been in Jamaica was back in 1994. We did hire a taxi driver (that had the right license plate according to the info we were given by Carnival) to take us on a tour, which turned out all right and interesting. He showed us some of the flora, some of the workers' village. He also offered us ganja, which we turned down nicely.

I have never been there, but now that I read all this stuff I don't think I would like it. I want to visit clean, friendly places where the locals aren't too pushy...or too scary!

Thanks for the replies...We'll be there next week doing the Appleton Estates tour presented by Carnival. I've been to Ocho and it would have been a better experience had it not been for the pushy (pardon the pun) peddlers LOL. We'll see how it goes next week. Later Jim

They now have a shopping area at the Ocho Rios pier that is OK to walk around in. The "pushy" street vendors are kept out, so it's a better experience.

If we are in Montego Bay - we stay on the ship. If we are in Ocho Rios, then we walk over to the Market Village (?) and go to Margaritaville for lunch and drinks. This is when we are not on a tour.
