    Digital cameras

When preparing for your cruise I am sure there are many things you want out of your camera. I realize some still like to use the 35mm instead of digital. Also, at times the disposable waterproof are handy to have.

What I would like to know is what types of things you look for in your digital cameras. There will be multiply choice answers. And if you could please elaborate what you like it would be helpful.

I am sure there are others like me that are thinking of buying a new camera. Since cruisers seem to like to take a lot of pictures of their cruises I thought what a better place to get some imput.

    Thanks all.

I would appreciate the imput on the added questions in the poll. I realize this poll is not a simple one. There are so many things that could be important to you. There could be a poll just on brands alone.

A lot of the digital cameras you see don't have a viewfinder. Do you find that difficult in the bright daylight? (the poll didn't want me to elaborate so I thought I would add it here) I have noticed some cameras are hard to view through the back in daylight. Also, if you have AA batteries it seems like they use the battery life more using the back screen.

I have found I like my Fuji camera. It is old and outdated and I am looking to get a new one. I do like the quality of pictures it does take.

I decided to go with the lithium battery when I choose my new camera. It is a hassle to always have the AA's on hand and keep them charged.

I want a camera with a higher resolution so I get a clearer picture. I want to be able to blow it up to an 8x10 and have it still be clear.

I also have liked having the viewfinder on my camera. If I knew that I could find one that even in the brightest sunlight that it isn't needed I might consider not having one. So many of the cameras really seem to need a viewfinder for bright days.

    Hi Helen,

Brand does matter to me, I would not want to buy a camera that I have not heard of. Batteries do not matter to me, as long as I have a couple of spare ones and a charger, so lithium or regular is fine. The ONE thing I do look for is a viewfinder. A lot of the digital camers DO NOT have this little feature anyamore. The manufacutreres have decided that we don't need it. But I prefer it. When taking a picture and the sun is behnd you it is almost impossible to see the image on the lcd screen. And that sometimes makes for a bad picture. Another thing about no viewfinder is that the batteries do not last as long because the lcd screen does suck up a lot of the power.

I have an Olympus that I bought ( ugh no viewfinder!) simply because I could buy the underwater housing for it. I found that the cheaper undewater cameras did not work asd well for me. The Olympus works great. But now I am looking for another camera that has a viewfinder. Canon has a couple of small ones. That is another feature I like, a SMALL and lightweight camera. I also have a bigger Olympus with switchable lenses, but it is bigger and bulkier. I also have a JVC Camcorder that does not require tapes of discs. It has a hard drive and that is great, But that is a video one.

I also like the simplicity of some camers, including the Olympus I have. I like to look and shoot. If I see something I like I want to snap the picture, not have to make any type of adjustments due to light or time of day and stuff like that.

A couple more things, had to go back to read the poll again. lol Lots of the smaller camera do have the self timer feature or remote. I like the remote over the self timer. The remote gives you all the time you want you need to get into the picture and then all o do is click. THe self timer of course goes off at a set time, usually just as you are about to sit or when you blink!

And finally sorry but I forget what the other things was. lol

It depends, sometimes I use the case, sometimes I dont. My smaller camera protects the lens when it is off, so a case is not always necessary. And as for memory cards, I have the same brand cameras, so they accept the same type memory card.

I guess I probably did not help you much, but hopefully gave you some things to look for.

There are lots of online places to get tips and how to's on picture taking. Also some camera stores offer classes gree of charge when yo buy from them. It is important to understand your camera and what it can do to help you take good pitcures.

Annie it does help. I do find I like the viewfinder too.

As far as a case. Sometimes it is nice to be able to just crab the camera and having a case (with neckstrap) can be handy when you don't want to have to hang onto the camera and have the problem of accidentally dropping it.

My brother in law did give me some links.

Digital Cameras, Digital Photo Cameras, Digital Camera, Argus, Canon, Fuji, HP, JVC, Kodak and more at TigerDirect.com

He has bought reconditioned ones from this site.

One thing he likes about these sites is it has reviews from users.

Here is another site he gave me too. This link will take you to an actual camera I was looking at.

I like most of what that camera has to offer just no viewfinder.

Size is important If a camera is too big to pop in a pocket then it ends up being left at home. My video camera is slightly too big for a pocket so I have a case that will fit on my belt. That way I can make sure it's always with me when I go out on holiday.
