I have been able to make the best of my cruises no matter the circumstances. On the Fantasy the shower had a problem with getting a correct temperature. The upper bunk was uncomfortable. The roomies weren't the nicest to me. But I did have a fun cruise non the less.
It is what you make of it. The ship might be older and not as nice as some of the others but you can still enjoy the all aspects of the cruise. It is all in your own state of mind on how you will enjoy it. If you go thinking noticing the bad you will have a bad cruise. If you go with the open mind you can find fun where fun is.

I voted NO - the cruise you win is usually the chespest cabin availale. And if you accept it - you pay taxes on that prize. And when they submit to the government, they don't give the discount rate - just the premium rate.

It would depend a lot on the ports. IF I was spending most days in port, the ship (and line) don't matter that much. If, on the other hand, It was mostly sea days, I guess it would be a matter of how unhappy I was with the line.
As others have said though, if it's the cheapest cabin available, I would definitely have second thoughts.

Lee .... Normally, it is the cheapest cabin ... but, I remember, Char (who won a free cruise) said that they were offered an upgrade which they did take.

Taxes, good point, KK! Now, my NO vote becomes an even stronger NO vote!

I voted YES, but of course it would depend on many factors related to the timing, peripheral costs, ports, schedule conflicts, etc. It would likely come down to cost vs. benefit, and I would like to think a "sorta" free cruise would be better than no cruise. For the cruise line itself to be a factor, there would have to be some serious overriding circumstances. Note this comes from someone who has cruised only with NCL, and will be on the Gem in January.
My husband won our 1st cruise - a 7 nighter. We were a bit leary of cruising, and a week seemed a long time to sample something we weren't sure of...
So we booked 4 night instead. Because of the $ dif., we ended up in the Royal Suite on the then brand new RCCL Nordic Empress! I can honestly say, after looking at Forbes best luxury cabins on ships earlier today, that this one still would stand out!
Amazing!!!
We were hooked, and have yet to have (or see!) a cabin that could have compared!
YES! I'd try it again!

We're cruising!! Yay!!!!
I voted YES. Even if it was on Carnival during spring break, (I might be sorry I said that). That is one cruise I would avoid if I was paying full price.
A cruise is a cruise is a cruise, and I love cruising. Of course it would have to be at a time I could go. I enjoy being on the water so much that I think I would even enjoy a bad cruise! JMO
