I voted it depends. There have been times it was a better deal through the cruiseline and other times it was better doing it myself. We use airmiles alot, also
I book my own air, I find that the prices I get are much cheaper. the last cruise we took, our airfare was 49.00 ow, the cruise line would not get us that price.
I was supposed to go on that 9/15 Trans atlantic, on that one I was letting theTA get it because we were flying to england.
When we received the flight tickets that our TA had booked (a Carnival air/hotel package) for my second cruise (first one that required us to fly to the embarkation port), I called up hubby (then bf), opened up the package and started to tell him the flight arrangements. Then I realized we were booked on a redeye flight to Miami, getting us in the morning of the cruise. We both agreed this was unacceptable. Called the TA and said, no way. We wanted to fly in th night before and have the hotel room. Not fly during the night and arrive blurry eyed. So our tickets were changed. Can't remember if we were charged for this.
After that, when not leaving from LA, we made our own arrangements.

Our initial booking is always with air, but we can easily cancel the air, which we often do. If the cruise is not round trip, the cruiseline airfare is usually cheaper. Otherwise, we book our own, using points whenever we can.
When we use their air, we do deviation as well. Even though, there is not supposed to be a charge, we are charged because the flights themselves are more $$$$. But, I am sure our schedule is better!
Gee - I couldn't vote. My choice wasn't there. We always book our own flights - never even let the TA do it as they charge higher than what I can get on the internet.

You can vote KK! One choice is TA OR you.

I also chose "it depends". Before booking anything we always check to see which airline has the best deal for our dates.
If we are flying one way to/from Europe for a transatlantic, then we let the cruiseline do it because it's always been less expensive for those kinds of flights and transfers are included. If it's domestic, we always book our own.
We do the same as Char!

Hi, I put down that I book or my TA does.(She's my sister) The cruise prices for air are always higher, although I've never flown to a destination for a cruise besides FLL. I did stay at their hotel through the cruise line.
