Salute To Veterans Cruise

I am considering starting a "Salute to Veterans" group cruise for November 2009. Need to find how many folks would be interested in this. It would be a group cruise probably on Carnival. I have contacted a couple of sources and want to find out if the interest is really there or not. This would be a group cruise not a Veterans discount cruise. The more the merrier.

Hey NAMVET

I'll alert my hubby to this thread

How much response are you getting on CC? I noticed that the thread had gotten pretty long the last time I was over there, but haven't read it since you first posted it. (yes! we can talk about the other board here )

I am getting a pretty good response so far. I have told all to wait until I can review and select itineraries before anything will be decided.

Carnival does offer military discounts. Unlike other lines, the only requirement is that you served. I don't know how that would stackup against the group rartes but it would be a good idea to make it known when negotiating.

Served in Korea and Japan (51-53) and think this is a great idea.

Hi Nam Vet,

We replied on the other thread also. We would be interested since my Dh is a disable Nam Vet and a member and officer in the DAV.

We have nothing planned for late 09 so we will keep that open pending a possible Vet's cruise with you!

You should see if as a group cruise there is a way to also get the military discount from Carnival.

The Veterans discount is limited to folks with 2 years service and an honorable discharge. There are very a limited number of Veteran discount cabins available on a ship. From what I understand, the group rate will be cheaper and also open to those that are not Veterans but would like to come along also like children, grandchildren etc. You cannot mix two discounts together. Will let you all know more when I hear more.

I have a CLF group cruise on the Carnival Spirit, 11-06-2007. I have some people booked under the military fare and some under the group rate. The military rate is significantly lower, but you do have amenities with the group rate. After all is said and done, the military rate, especially for the higher category cabins, is less.
I've got about 20 under the group rate and 10 under military rate on this sailing.
I just run the fares both ways and book the cheaper one. The military bookings are linked to the group for dining.

I'd be happy to help you in any way with your group.

Just returned from a seven day Caribbean cruise on Carnival Glory. I was very disappointed in the service from the cabin steward and in the dining room. Also very limited activities staff so they did not offer much. Ship was also a little threadbare in spots. I like the idea of a veteran's cruise but don't think I would do Carnival again.
