You'll love Oceania - very, very nice! Might also take a look at Crystal, Seabourn, and Regent Seven Seas. And if you want something different, consider Winstar or even Seadream Yacht Club. They don't go to the Panama, but offer a wonderful experience.

This type of behavior is not only apparent in the dining room (wearing baseball caps while eating, wearing t-shirts or cutoffs for dinner, etc) but it is prevalent in alot of areas. For example; the person who goes to the pool at 8:00am to put their personal stuff on 8 lounge chairs and then disappear until 2:00pm in the afternoon! Or allowing their kids to play in the adults only pool! Obviously, I could go on, but I think you get the picture.

For some reason, alot of people feel they have paid a great deal of money to go on a cruise and there are no rules for them to follow.

It's a sad state of affairs in our society today, but it seems to be apparent everywhere.

Now, with all that said, I can say this type of behavior is prevalent in just about every level of cruising. However, the higher the rating of the cruise line, the less of this behavior is apparent. Obviously this is just my personal opinion and observation, but I think you'll find this more on Carnival, a little less on RCCL & Princess, and then alot less on Holland & Celebrity. In other words, the classier the cruise line, the more manners the passengers seem to show./quote]

I can support that theory. I have never seen one single rude, obnoxious, misbehaving, ugly-acting, or mean spirited person on any Regent cruise I've been on. I also have never seen anybody save chairs or dress totally inappropriate for dinner, either. Everybody's happy, polite and really nice to each other.

    I agree!

You won't find this type of behavior on Regent , Crystal, Seabourn, or Windstar.

But then again, you also won't find it on Windjammer (which is very laid back anyway).

I would love to try all those lines, but I am addicted to karaoke.

Most folks don't sail those cruise lines because of price...I don't sail them because they don't have karaoke!!

Having cruises for 29 years, we have seen many changes.

One of the things that many of you may not know about was that the productions shows were all live. They were not a fancy, but they did not have the back up tracks that they use now. I remember when Princess first started testing it in 1986 on the Pacific Princess.

We have also noticed the changes in service. We still enjoy cruising but service and food quality has gone down some over the years. We have been mostly on RCL the last 10 years. In September we are taking a trip on Princess so I will see how much they have changed.

To this point we still consider it a great way to travel, just not the same as it was.

Will be waiting to see what you have to say about Princess in this regard on your return, Bliz.

Boy do I agree with the gratuities I think that all the ships should go back to individual tips. They seem to go out of there way a little more for you if the money comes right from us. We have surely seen that on the Carnival ship we were on Poor service. We never saw our room attendant the whole trip.
